ASHFIELD ACADEMY ANNOUNCEMENT

🚨 In light of today’s recommendation from the Scottish Youth Football Association on discouraging training drills that involve repeated heading of the ball, the club have issued a statement. 🚨

“From the recent news on the SYFA recommendation against training drills that encourage repetitive heading of the ball (due to recent studies on dementia cases related to football from Glasgow University) on age groups up to and including Under 11s, Ashfield FC & Academy will temporarily enforce this recommendation as a rule and expectation with immediate effect on our age group levels from mini-kickers to, and including, our Under 11s level.

That said, we are aware that this is an ongoing study and the next 18 months will be crucial in Glasgow University gaining further analysis and data to enforce this recommendation to a possible strict policy.

Until then we will be open to calibrate with the SYFA and any other bodies to change this temporary rule to a more permanent one. We will not have a permanent procedure in place to this recommendation until it is abundant by the official bodies.

This change may cause some concerns amongst our members, players and parents but our initial response must be corrective until notified by the expert bodies of otherwise.

A temporary policy will be created by the club for all members to read, understand and sign over the coming days.

For now, communication has been sent to the academy leads to relay to all members, players and parents to advise of our temporary change (reiterate with immediate effect).

Internal audits will continue towards the end of the year and into the new year from our senior coaching team and this temporary ruling will be part of the requisite of the audit.

The club would like to thank everyone for their cooperation on the matter at hand and your support going forward”

Ashfield Football Club & Academy

Welcome to the section where we speak about the Teams within our Youth Academy and what they have either been achieving or what they have coming up. As it`s still close season it will just be a little bit about all of the Teams.

Our Ashfield Youth Academy covers the ages of Under 14`s (Born 2004) all the way down to our mini kickers programme for under 6 years of age.

Our oldest age groups are the Under 14`s, Under 13`s and Under 12`s who all play eleven a side Football. The Under 14`s play in the Paisley and District League with the Under 13`s and 12`s both playing in the Glasgow and District. All will start their League campaign on the 12th August 2018 with their Scottish Cup 1st Round ties taking place the weekend of the 25th and 26th August 2018. These three age groups have forty eight players between them. The Under 14`s will also participate in the the Crosshouse Boys Club Festival next Month. We wish them good luck for the coming season.

Our younger age groups are still at the `playing for enjoyment` stage of their development with our Under 11`s trialing the new SFA Directive of 9 v 9 games to see if it`s beneficial in helping to close the big jump from 7s to 11s. Twenty one players will soon let everyone know if they enjoy it.

The Ashfield Under 10`s and Under 9`s will compete in their 7-a-side Season and have thirty two boys between them. Both age groups will also take part in the Calderbraes F C Festival in Motherwell on Saturday 4th August 2018.

Our Under 8`s are our only age group that play super fives and they have 14 boys between two teams. They will participate in the Airdrie Festival on the 12th August 2018.

For the Under 7`s, they play at Toryglen at fun fours . The 16 boys split between two teams and compete in the Glasgow City Cup on the 28th July 2018 and also in the Airdrie Festival on the 12th August 2018.

Lastly we have the mini kicker programme for Under 6`s. They don`t play any games at present but the eight boys are learning the basic skills and enjoying their training very much which will help them a lot for when they go to play fun fours in February 2019.
