Match Report and Pics for Season 2025/2026

Match No: 1 - Lochmaben 0 Ashfield 4 - Pre-Season Friendly - Whitehills Park, Lochmaben DG11 1QP - KO 2pm

Well hear we go again as the `field start their 140th Season in existence and a Pre-Season Trip to the lovely town of Lochmaben in Dumfries and Galloway. Peter Hill and his Management Team have been extremely busy during the close season and have brought in circa 12 new players to compliment an existing 8/9 from last Season.
Lanarkshire Referee Roark McShane got proceedings underway on a heavy Whitehills Park and the rain was not far away from making the conditions more challenging. The visitors started well playing with pace and urgency and within 5 minutes got their reward for a bright opening. Kieran Findlay playing on the right wing outpaced his marker down the right flank before cutting in and delivering a low hard cross which the Lochmaben Keeper Thomas Cruikshank could only parry into the path of David Aitken who finished well to put the `field 1-0 up. Lochmaben 0 Ashfield 1. The home side were rocked and struggled to make inroads into the Ashfield rearguard however a couple of dangerous free-kicks into the box tested the Ashfield defence before Ashfield were awarded a penalty on the 20th minute. A corner from Ashfield broke out to edge of the box and a shot cannoned off the arm of a Lochmaben defender with Referee McShane pointing immediately to the spot. Up stepped Ashfield Captain Connor Hughes and although he hit the ball well, the young Lochmaben Keeper pulled off a tremendous save to keep the score at 1-0. A couple of minutes later he was called into action following a lovely move and again he thwarted Hughes with a parried save round the post. The home side themselves had an appeal for a penalty which was waived aside before Cruikshanks was again called into action saving low down to his right from Ross McDonald. Ashfield eventually went further ahead in the 35th minute when Kieran Findlay picked up the ball on the left hand side of the box before making room for himself and thrashed the ball high past Cruikshanks to the delight of the travelling support. Lochmaben 0 Ashfield 2.  A great goal from Findlay who was looking extremely sharp. The game continued in the same vein right up until Half time as the rain began to come on heavier.

HT:- LOCHMABEN 0 ASHFIELD 2

Ashfield had been forced into a change at the back before half time bringing on Ex-Yoker Euan Bonham to replace the injured Corey Hanlon as the game started off at great pace again. The home side were working extremely hard but chances were at a premium for them as the `field back four looked pretty solid. At the other end a succession of early corners were well defended by the back two of Lochmaben however on 53 minutes a lovely ball from McDonald saw them caught on their heels as David Aitken raced through and as the Keeper advanced he placed the ball into the far corner of the net to put the `field 3-0 ahead. Lochmaben 0 Ashfield 3. The `field made a couple of substitutions over the next period of time bringing on Matthew Montgomery, Nathaniel Black and Paddy McHugh before Balwan Jamal came on later. The `field managed to keep the tempo high despite changes and it was good to see Nat Black utilise his pace going forward. With 15 minutes to go the `field went on to score the `goal of the game` when Kieran Findlay picked up the ball 22 yards out before weaving past a couple of tackles and unleashing a rising shot which hit the roof of the net in seconds to cap off an impressive performance from last year`s top scorer. Lochmaben 0 Ashfield 4.  Shortly after that the `heavens opened` and the players were subjected to a real soaking as both teams still put on a spectacle despite the weather. As the Referee brought proceedings to a close this had been a great work out with the `field looking impressive on this outing. Lochmaben entertain Gretna next week in their pre-season preparations and we would like to thank them for their kind hospitality.

The `field will now prepare for the Only Sports North Glasgow Cup being held at Lochburn Park, Maryhill over the weekend of 12th & 13th July 2025........`mon the `field !

Match No 2:- Ashfield 2 St Anthony`s 0, Saturday 12th July 2025 - KO 10.45am - Lochburn Park, Maryhill, Glasgow G20 9AQ - Only Sports North of Glasgow Cup Semi Final.

It was an early start for both teams as the Players and Officials of Ashfield and St Anthony`s arrived to full preparations from hosts Maryhill FC both on and off the Park. What was prevalent was the intense heat at this time of the Morning and by Kick-Off it was not far off 27c. This was the `field`s and St Anthony`s 2nd outing in Pre-Season and it was quite ironic that our U20s Development Teams had `locked horns` the night before at McKenna Park with Calum Coghill`s young Ashfield Team prevailing 2-1.
Peter Hill & his Management Team had ` tinkered` slightly with the First Team following last weeks impressive showing at Lochmaben with Centre Back Partnership of Ian Begg & Aeron Fitzpatrick in for Euan Bonham & Luke Martin. Aaron Chauhdry was also making his Ashfield debut & it was he who `caught the eye` in the opening minutes with some lovely wing play. Ashfield pressed the `Ants` right back in the opening stages and were looking good and it came as no surprise that on the 5th Minute the `field went ahead. A ball was played into David Aitken on the edge of the box who swivelled with his back to goal drilling a low hard shot which had Ryan Cooper in the Ants goal beaten only to see the ball crack off the post with Connor Hughes first to react side footing the ball into the far corner of the net to put the `field ahead. Ashfield 1 St Anthony`s 0. A good goal from Ashfield following some excellent build up. The Match continued in the same form with the `field dominating proceedings however the Ants back four were defending well. A couple of shots from outside the box from Chauhdry and Chalmers were well held by Cooper before Kieran Findlay picked the ball up on the left hand side. The Ashfield striker cut in from the left and unleashed a drive, similar to his strike at Lochmaben the week before, however this time Kieran was denied a goal by the finger tips of the Ants Keeper. A wonderful move and save. Both sets of players were playing at a good pace despite the tremendous heat and a `drinks break` was more than welcome after half an hour. The game became more even for the last 15 minutes of the half with St Anthony`s pressing forward however found the Ashfield back four in commanding form. As it was there was no further incidents before Referee Cheney brought proceedings to a halt & a much earned rest for the players.

HT:- ASHFIELD 1 ST ANTHONY`S 0

The `field made one change for the start of the second half with Aaron Chauhdry being replaced by Sean Allan as the game started off in similar vein. Despite the `field`s dominance in the first half they knew that there was only one goal in it and were keen to extend. The Ants however made 3 changes at Half time and the fresh legs in the heat made a difference as the game went on and the Govan side managed to get their passing game together and certainly had `stepped up a gear`. Chances were at a premium as the game became rather embroiled in Midfield and Peter Hill was forced into a number of substitutes with a quarter of the game to go bringing on Kaine McFarlane, Ger Stevenson and Evan Higgins and within a couple of minutes Ashfield should have scored when a wicked cross from Kaine on the left hand side evaded the Ants defence & Connor Hughes at  the back post failed to make a good enough contact as the ball bounced just before it arrived. As the clock ticked towards the 90th minute, the Ants had their best spell of the Match knocking the ball about well and carving some half chances and with less than a minute to go should have been level when a weaving run by Gordon saw his cut back into the path of Wilson who had his first shot blocked by Angus Hughes before the ball fell to another Ants player who went for power and his shot crashed off the underside of the crossbar before being cleared to safety. To make matters worse for the Govan side, Connor Hughes for Ashfield picked up a loose pass from an Ants defender and managed to squeeze a shot past the advancing Callum Dillon into the far corner of the net on 90 minutes to settle the Match and a place in the Final for Ashfield. Ashfield 2 St Anthony`s 0

Both teams deserve enormous credit for putting on a good show in the `searing`heat which is a phrase you do not hear very much in our Country.

Ashfield`s Team:- T Starr, L Robertson, J Kavanagh, A Fitzpatrick, I Begg, G Chalmers, K Findlay, R McDonald, C Hughes, A Chauhdry and D Aitken. Subs:- G Stevenson, A Hughes (GK), K McFarlane, E HIggins, S Allan, and P McHugh.

Man of the Match:- Making his debut for Ashfield this afternoon was `Close Season` Signing Ian Begg. He and his fellow defender Aeron Fitzpatrick both from Clydebank kept the Ants team at bay as the `field made it 2 wins out of 2 so far in Pre-Season Friendlies ensuring a place in the North Glasgow Cup Final v Maryhill, who narrowly defeated Glenvale 2-1 in the afternoon game, tomorrow.

Match No 3:- Maryhill 1 Ashfield 1 (Maryhill won 4-1 on Penalties), Only Sports North Glasgow Cup Final - Sunday 13th July 2025 - KO 2.30pm - Lochburn Park, Maryhill, Glasgow G20 9AQ

Again the sun was beating down in North Glasgow as `all roads led to Lochburn Park`. With Glenvale securing 3rd Place with an impressive win over St Anthony`s, the destiny of the Inaugural North Glasgow Cup was to be decided between the hosts Maryhill and their old neighbours Ashfield. As the Crowd swarmed into Lochburn it was a change of strips for both teams before Referee McShane got proceedings underway with Maryhill playing in their Centenary Strip of Blue & White Vertical Stripes and Ashfield in their traditional Black and White Hoops.

Although extremely warm there was partial cloud cover and a nice breeze today as Ashfield started off the brighter team and the Maryhill defence had to withstand some early Ashfield pressure. The `field had two changes from the Ants game with Ger Stevenson replacing Connor Hughes and Kaine McFarlane replacing Aaron Chauhdry. It took 18 minutes to have our first serious attempt at goal and what a strike it was. Following neat interplay between the Ashfield midfielders, Ross McDonald found some space for himself circa 22 yards out and delivered a dipping net-bound effort which was brilliantly palmed over the bar by the Maryhill Keeper. Following a couple of corners, Ian Begg managed to win the ball in the six yard box with the ball breaking out to McDonald again and his low drive was cleared off the line by a Maryhill defender. This `kick-started` the home side and a lovely delivery from the right saw the Maryhill Centre guide a header goal-wards which was well saved by Thomas Starr. That had been a warning for Ashfield and on 29 minutes a similar whipped in cross to the back post this time was met by Hood who guided his header into the corner of the net to the delight of the home support. Maryhill 1 Ashfield 0. The home side gained confidence from this and a couple of efforts, one which hit the outside of the post saw the hosts have their best spell of the Match. The `field still looked dangerous on the break and a curling shot from Kaine McFarlane on 38 minutes looked to have beaten the `hill Keeper however clipped the outside of the post also. The game was being played like a Cup tie and not a Pre-Season Friendly with a water break built in too as the game ebbed and flowed right up until Half time with the home side going in ahead.

HT:- MARYHILL 1 ASHFIELD 0

The Ashfield Management Team changed the formation slightly with Sean Allan coming on and his introduction coincided with the `field having their best spell of the Match. The Maryhill defence however were well marshalled and despite some pressure, chances remained at a premium. Again the Match continued to be played at a fierce pace as changes and water breaks did not deter the focus. Similar to the first half when the hosts had a good period, it was now Ashfield`s turn to have a sustained period of pressure and were incredibly unlucky when with 20 minutes to go, Ger Stevenson found some space again around 22 yards out and his curling shot cannoned off the inside of the post before being cleared to safety. Sean Allan was next up with a mazy run however was thwarted by the legs of the Maryhill Keeper in the 6 yard box. The hosts also had their moments too however the Ashfield back four remained resolute as the game went into the last 10 minutes. On the 82nd Minute Ashfield were awarded a Free-Kick some 25 yards out. Ross McDonald & Greg Chalmers both stood over it however it was Ross that took the kick curling a wicked shot into the far corner of the net to the delight of the Ashfield support. A real cracker of a shot from the Stand-In Ashfield Captain and the delight on the players faces was there to see. Maryhill 1 Ashfield 1. With time fast running both teams had a `real go` at each other before the Referee brought proceedings to a halt with the Cup to be decided on Penalty Kicks.

The home side took 4 out of 4 excellent Kicks with the `field missing their first two to leave a `mountain to climb` and as it was Maryhill who triumphed by 4-1 and lifted the Trophy.

Congratulations to Maryhill in winning the Cup and a big well done to the `field for ensuring a pulsating 90 minutes. Also to Glenvale and St Anthony`s and for all the Staff and Committee at Maryhill FC for all their hard work in hosting a memorable weekend.

Man of the Match:- A very good all round team performance from Ashfield against a good Maryhill side ensured a pulsating 90 minutes at Lochburn today. Special mentions to the Ashfield back four who defended extremely well throughout the 90 minutes & to Ger Stevenson who was so unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet however `stand-in` Captain Ross McDonald put in a tremendous shift. Not only did he bring out the best in the Maryhill Keeper in the first half but equalised for Ashfield 9 minutes to go to take the game to pens in which he scored one also.

Match No 4:- Saltcoats Victoria 1 Ashfield 3 - Pre-Season Friendly - Tuesday 15th July 2025 - KO 7.15pm - Campbell Park, Saltcoats, North Ayrshire

Ashfield travelled to a very wet north Ayrshire to face 4th division side Saltcoats Victoria in their 4th pre season friendly of the 25/26 campaign.

It was much changed Ashfield side from Sundays game against Maryhill with , Angus Hughes , Luke Martin , Paul Gordon (trialist), Evan Higgins and Liam Coogans all coming into the `field`s starting 11 .

It was Ashfield who kicked off the game  with the away side going on the front foot early doors , Ger Stevenson and Kieran Findlay creating clear cut chances in the opening minutes of the game and Ashfield should have been probably two up after 10 minutes but it was the home team who struck first after a free kick from 30 yard was spilled by goalkeeper Hughes and the incoming Saltcoats player tapped the ball in from 3 yards out . Saltcoats Vics 1 Ashfield 0. First half continued in a similar fashion with Ashfield controlling majority of the possession and moving the ball about well and still creating chance after chance but just couldn’t find the back of the net .

The equaliser came just before the half hour mark when a Ross McDonald corner was whipped in and young centre half Aeron Fitzpatrick got on the end and directed a brilliant header into the bottom corner of the Saltcoats net . Saltcoats Vics 1 Ashfield 1

The game continued and it was Ger Stevenson who linked up well with Coogans making his Ashfield debut , Coogans played an inch perfect pass through to Stevenson who put the ball centimetres wide of the Saltcoats post and both teams went in level at the interval .

HT:- SALTCOATS VICS 1 ASHFIELD 1

Second half started & Ashfield had made 3 changes at half time with , Greg Chalmers , Euan Bonham & trialist Patryk Dygulski coming on .

It was the home side however who started better with Ashfield changing formation at half time taking 15/20 minutes to get going again and following a bit of pressure from Saltcoats it was defender Ian Begg who brought down the Saltcoats forward in the box and a penalty was awarded to the home side . The Saltcoats forward stepped up but young Ashfield keeper Hughes went the right way and kept the game at 1-1 .

It took the penalty to get the field going again and Ashfield got a foothold back in the game, got into their rhythm and started to dictate the play again . Two more changes were made on the 60 minute mark when Jonny Kavanagh and Kaine McFarlane came on to replace. Ger Stevenson and Luke Martin . Shortly after that last years top goal-scorer Kieran Findlay walked onto an inch perfect pass from Ross McDonald rounding the keeper and passed it into an empty net . Saltcoats Vics 1 Ashfield 2 . Findlay getting his 3rd goal in 4 games so far this pre season .

70th minute and two more changes for the field when promising young u20s striker Cian Kinney came on to replace Liam Coogans who had impressive debut and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet himself tonight and winger Nat Black who came onto replace Kieran Findlay .

It wasn’t long before the young striker was involved and found himself 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper only for the youngest to crack the post . The 3rd goal came on the 81st minute when Kaine McFarlane evaded a few Saltcoats players and passed the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-1 to the field . Saltcoats Vics 1 Ashfield 3.

The game finished with the field creating a few more chances where they should have capitalised on and made it a more comfortable victory than what it was already The Saltcoats goalkeeper pulled of some great saves to keep the score down .

Overall It was a good performance from Ashfield tonight the only thing wasn’t being clinical in front of goal but that should come as the weeks go on . Another good win for Peter Hill`s Ashfield side who are unbeaten in 90 minutes for 4 games now and only conceding 2 goals in these games .

Next up the field travel to Fullarton Park to face 1st Division side Vale of Clyde in what will be the last  game of the pre season schedule .

Match No 5:- Vale of Clyde 1 Ashfield 1 , Pre-Season Friendly, Saturday 19th July 2025 - KO 2pm - Fullarton Park, Tollcross, Glasgow G32 8LD

Ashfield headed to the `lush` playing surface at Fullarton Park, Tollcross for what was the final Pre-Season game for both Clubs ahead of the `big Kick-Off` next Saturday (26th). Ashfield head down the M74 to Craighead Park, Lesmahagow next week whilst the `Tin Pail` head over to the James McGrory Stadium to take on St Roch`s.
Since the last Meeting between Ashfield and the Vale, which was towards the end of last Season, both teams have shown significant changes in personnel and the `field Manager Peter Hill had to `tinker` with the formation and players slightly due to a couple of niggles which is `par for the course` for this time of the Season. Ian Begg moved to cover Louis Robertson`s right back berth with Luke Martin coming into Centre Half and Paul Gordon retained his place in Midfield following the victory at Saltcoats in Midweek.
A healthy crowd streamed into the Ground as Referee Quinn got proceedings under way with the `field keen not to concede corners and Free-Kicks which were proved `fruitful` for the home side last Season however it was the `Tin Pail` who started the game on the front foot not allowing Ashfield time to settle on the ball and forcing the play down towards Thomas Starr in the Ashfield goal. A couple of free-kicks and early crosses were whipped in and were well dealt with by Ashfield however on the 6th Minute a long throw from Cherrie saw the ball bounce about the penalty box before the Vale Centre Forward Wright looped a header into the far corner of the net to put the home side ahead. Vale of Clyde 1 Ashfield 0. An early blow for Ashfield however it was early and they were showing enough on the breakaway at this early stage that their pace could be a major factor throughout the Match. The home side continued in a rich vein of form at this stage and a couple of long range efforts failed to trouble Starr in the Ashfield goal.
Ashfield were probing and pushing forward at every opportunity however the Vale back four were in mean mood and chances were at a premium in the opening phase. Ger Stevenson broke down the left a couple of times however his cut backs narrowly missed Ashfield players however in the 31st Minute the `field got their reward for pulling themselves into the game. A corner on the right was driven hard into the box and it was Aeron Fitzpatrick who met the ball `full on` with his head and the ball flew into the top corner to the delight of the travelling support. A terrific goal by the young Centre Half who was having an excellent game. Vale of Clyde 1 Ashfield 1. It was `game on` and the game ebbed and flowed from one end to another with the `field testing Gordon in the Vale goal. A run and drive from Kieran Findlay brought out a great save from the Keeper five minutes before the break. From a spectators view point this game was certainly not like a Friendly as both teams gave their all before Referee Quinn brought a stop to the game for Half time as the rain began to get heavier.

HT:- VALE OF CLYDE 1 ASHFIELD 1

The second half started in the same vein as the first with the home side pressing early on and were rewarded with a couple of free-kicks in dangerous positions however they were defended well and danger was cleared from an Ashfield point of view. Euan Bonham came on for Ian Begg at Half time with Jonny Kavanagh switching sides & Luke Martin heading to left back. Ashfield began to get theIr passing game together and were playing some very good Football . Another couple of changes brought on Aaron Chauhdry and Evan Higgins and it was Chauhdry that certainly `caught the eye` with his mazy runs down the flanks. Ashfield almost went ahead on the 65th minute when a curling right foot shot from Chauhdry brought out a wonderful one handed save from Gordon in the Vale goal to keep the scores level. Vale had their own chance also when a cross ball to the far post saw Savarese drive the ball into the ground with the ball bouncing narrowly over.
Another couple of changes were made as both Managers tried to win the game and it was the `field now that had most of the pressure however were wary of the Vale breaks which were dangerous. A couple of long throw ins from Ashfield substitute Corey Hanlon caused alarm in the home defence and the `field almost won the game in the last minute when a lovely Ross McDonald corner was met by Aeron Fitzpatrick and his header went inches past the post.
That was the last of the chances as Referee brought proceedings to a close and this had been a great work out for both teams.

We wish Vale of Clyde well for the up coming Season.

Man of the Match:- This was a great Pre-Season `test` for the `field against difficult opponents and they came out with `flying colours` after clawing their way back into the game and finishing the stronger Team. Young Aeron Fitzpatrick was immense throughout the 90 minutes and also scored a terrific equaliser.

Match No 6:- Lesmahagow 2 Ashfield 0, Saturday 26th July 2025 - KO 2pm - West of Scotland League Division. Craighead Park, Lesmahagow ML11 0HE

Sunshine and showers greeted the players on the opening day of the Season at a `lush` Craighead Park which was looking very well indeed and with both teams having good Pre-Season`s an exciting game was in prospect in what is going to be a really competitive League this year. Both teams graced the turf in their traditional strips albeit the `gow have dispensed with their hoops for an all Red kit. Referee Deane got proceedings underway as the crowd poured into the ground swelling the attendance to over 200 and the home side did not have a long wait to cheer. Some neat play from Ashfield at the back saw Ian Begg play the ball to Paul Gordon who appeared to be fouled from behind & went down clutching his ankle however the Referee played on and the ball was played to an onrushing Luke Meikle 22 yards out who curled the ball into the top corner of the net to the roar of the home support and the angst of the travelling fans. Lesmahagow 1 Ashfield 0. A wonder strike from the `gow player however the `field felt aggrieved that the foul was not given. The home side got a huge lift from this and were utilising the flanks well and a couple of low cross balls were well defended by Fitzpatrick and Begg at the back for Ashfield.

Aaron Chauhdry was looking good on the right hand side for Ashfield with a couple of mazy runs however the final ball was well dealt with by a strong `gow back four. Kieran Findlay on the left for Ashfield utilised his pace on 25 minutes racing down the left flank before cutting in and driving the ball inches over the bar. The home side were next up with some good wing play again stretching the `field back four however clear-cut chances remained at a premium.

The game ebbed and flowed throughout the remainder of the half with the home side edging the play as the Ashfield front three struggled to hold the ball up and were extremely well marked by the `gow back four. The game remained pretty frantic up until half time with the crowd looking forward to what the second half would bring.

HT:- LESMAHAGOW 1 ASHFIELD 0

Peter Hill made a couple of changes to the `field line up for the start of the second half with Ger Stevenson and Euan Bonham coming on to replace Begg & Chauhdry who had picked up a booking and injury respectively. The game continued off in the same vein as it ended being fiercely competitive in the Midfield area with again defences on top. Ger Stevenson was causing problems down the left side for the `gow defence with his pace but the final ball evaded the Ashfield forwards. On the hour mark, Thomas Starr came to Ashfield`s rescue when a nice move down the right saw the ball finding a `gow forward who swivelled and drove the ball goal-wards bringing out a great save from the Ashfield Keeper with the fall being played out only for the `gow No 3 to curl a ball to the bottom left hand corner of the goal and bringing out another good save from Starr.
Ashfield `huffed & puffed` as they tried in vain to carve out some openings and despite some concerted pressure were unable to break down a resolute `gow defence. Kaine McFarlane was next to come on for Ashfield and he made his presence felt with a couple of mazy runs down the left flank and delivered a terrific ball to the front post which just evaded Connor Hughes. The `field were left with a `mountain to climb` however on 76 minutes when Luke Meikle was played through. The `gow forward still had a lot to do with Robertson and Bonham closing him down however the `gow forward managed to get his shot away deceivng Thomas Starr at his near post and the home side were 2-0 ahead. Lesmahagow 2 Ashfield 0. A blow for the `field however to their credit the visitors probably had their best spell of the Match in the last 10 minutes with the ball on more than one occasion bouncing about the box. Greg Chalmers delivered a fierce shot with 5 minutes to go which was well held by the `gow Keeper before a strong appeal for a sending off when Ger Stevenson was caught high as he made his way down the wing. Unfortunately for Ashfield, Ger was unable to continue being replaced by young Kinney from the U20s side. A number of minutes of injury time was played before the game was brought to an end and a disappointing start to the Season.

The `field will `lick their wounds` and now concentrate on Bellshill Athletic at Stepford on Tuesday night (29th - 8pm KO) before heading down to Dumfries and Galloway to play Threave Rovers on Saturday.

Man of the Match:- A frustrating day for Ashfield where nothing went according to plan. Losing a goal early on `rocked` the `field a bit and gave the home side a huge lift. The `field however put some really good moves together with Greg Chalmers winning most of his challenges in midfield & then linking in with his teammates. Other mentions to Aaron Chauhdry for a good opening 45 minutes before injury took over & to the Ashfield Keeper Thomas Starr who pulled off a good couple of saves in the second period.

Match No 7:- Ashfield 2 Bellshill Athletic 3 , Tuesday 29th July 2025 - KO 8pm. Stepford Park, 1459 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG - West of Scotland League Division 2.

Ashfield welcomed Bellshill Athletic to Stepford Park last night in the West of Scotland League Division 2 in an eagerly anticipated Match. Both teams had good Pre-Seasons however differing fortunes last Saturday with the `field going down narrowly to Lesmahagow whilst Bellshill came back from 3-2 down at HT to win 5-3 at Caledonian Locomotives.
The large crowd were treated to an enthralling 90 minutes which was a great advert for Tier 7 Football as the "pendulum" swung from one team to another. It was the `field that looked the livelier side in the opening exchanges utilising the pace of Stevenson and Findlay down the wings with the `field having a couple of balls played into the middle causing danger. Kyle Lauchlan was making his first start since injury curtailed him last Season and he and Greg Chalmers were instrumental in feeding the ball through with Euan Bonham at the back for Ashfield looking commanding. In the 7th minute the home side got their reward when Connor Hughes picked the ball up just inside the `hill half before threading a lovely ball through to top scorer Kieran Findlay who utilised his pace to get away from his marker and as Ross Anderson in the `hill goal advanced the Ashfield winger drilled the ball low and hard into the net to the delight of the home support. Ashfield 1 Bellshill Athletic 0. A blow for the large travelling support from Lanarkshire however the `hill responded well and won a series of corners and free-kicks. The `field knew this was a "danger area" for them with the `hill scoring 3 out of their 5 goals at the weekend from set-piece cross balls. On each occasion the curling deliveries were whipped in by Jamie Newton however the `field defended well with only one causing `mayhem` in the box as the ball bounced about before being cleared.
The Referee was called into action in the early stages and delivered a number of Cards to "quell` the enthusiasm of some players. The home side had a couple of chances to extend their lead when firstly Ger Stevenson was put through on the right however his initial effort was blocked before another effort was cleared on the six yard line. Connor Hughes was next up and his net bound shot was brilliantly blocked by a `hill defender. As the game approached half time the visitors came into the game and had a couple of shots which went over coupled with a free-kick brilliantly saved by Starr before an offside ruling.

As Referee Leitch brought proceedings to a halt the large crowd knew the game was finely balanced.

HT:- ASHFIELD 1 BELLSHILL ATH. 0

There were no substitutes for the home side however this was all to change within 6 minutes of the Second Half starting. The visitors started the half in determined fashion and from an Ashfield attack, the ball was played down the left flank and picked up by a `hill player who evaded a tackle before foraging at pace towards the box. Louis Robertson was late with a tackle and was shown a straight Red Card despite his protests. Ashfield survived the free-kick however the visitors were beginning to try and take advantage of the extra man spreading the ball wide. The `field brought on Ian Begg at this stage with Kyle Lauchlan reverting to right back. Again it was the visitors that drilled in a couple of corners one which met the head of a `hill Centre back with his effort cleared off the line. On 62 minutes the `hill were awarded a free-kick on the edge of Ashfield`s box after a late tackle by Jonny Kavanagh. Despite `the wall`, Peter O`Donnell for the `hill curled in a lovely free-kick into the far corner leaving Thomas Starr with no chance to the roar of the travelling support. Ashfield 1 Bellshill Athletic 1. Ashfield tried to force the game but were finding the ball coming back and within 2 minutes the visitors found O`Donnell again some 22 yards out and he lashed in a shot which sailed past Starr and into the top corner of the net to spark celebrations on the terracing. Ashfield 1 Bellshill Athletic 2. A real blow for the `field losing 2 goals in 2 minutes following the sending off. Peter Hill and his Management Team brought on Sean Allan, Kaine McFarlane and Aaron Chauhdry in a bid to rescue the Match and the `tide` began to go Ashfield`s way with some good link up play. A lovely cross ball found Ger Stevenson come on the `blind side` of the defender however he was unable to hit the target as the `field picked up the pace however with 10 minutes to go, a throw-in fell to Kieron Markey for the `hill and from 22 yards out he drove the ball into the far corner to look like sealing all three points for the `hill. Ashfield 1 Bellshill Athletic 3. A harsh score-line on Ashfield and to their credit had a `real go` at the `hill in the remaining minutes and with 3 minutes left on the clock got their reward when a great delivery from Kaine McFarlane found the head of Ger Stevenson at the far post and the Ashfield winger bulleted a header into the roof of the net to ensure a rousing last few minutes. Ashfield 2 Bellshill Athletic 3. The ball was being played forward at pace from Ashfield now and the `hill defence were managing to defend however Aaron Chauhdry was looking in good form and he curled an effort narrowly over the bar before the Referee brought proceedings to a close.

A very entertaining Match in which both teams deserve enormous credit. Ashfield had the `better` of the first half however the visitors came on strongly in the Second. The `field will feel a bit battered and bruised psychologically however they must `dust themselves` down for the trip to Castle Douglas on Saturday to meet Threave Rovers. Peter Hill will be keen to know the extent of Kieran Findlay & Jonny Kavanagh`s injuries and of course will be without the services of Louis Robertson. The `hill welcome Maryhill to Rockburn Park this Saturday.

Man of the Match:- An excellent performance from Ger Stevenson tonight who gave the `hill back four a torrid time. Could have scored more especially in the first half but a lovely header to pull us back into the game. Some good performances in the Black & White Hoops namely Bonham, Kavanagh & Findlay.

Match No 8:- Ashfield 0 Maryhill 8, West of Scotland League Division 2 - Saturday 9th August 2025 - 2pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG

It had been a month since the Teams met in the Final of the North Glasgow Cup Final at Lochburn and another exciting game was in prospect as both teams set about trying to `bounce back` from narrow defeats at Threave and Bellshill respectively. As the crowd streamed into the Ground the conditions were certainly not perfect as the wind was blowing hard from West to East as Referee Kai Newell got proceedings underway.
There couldn`t have been many who would have predicted what transpired over the next 90 minutes but it was the team  from Maryhill who `steamrolled` over Ashfield to almost inflict the `field`s record defeat in the Club`s history. The game started in quick fashion with both teams pressing however it was the visitors that began to `find their feet` early and after some neat inter play were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Ashfield box. The wall looked `well adjusted` however Connor Hamilton`s low driven shot seemed to go through the wall and found Thomas Starr`s bottom left hand corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield 0 Maryhill 1. A bad start for the home side however they foraged forward with the strong wind at their backs but found the `hill back four in good form and nothing was `sticking` up front for Ashfield. Another move down the left saw the `field gifting another free-kick on the left flank just after the 15 minute mark. Pacitti whipped the ball into the box with Shields getting above the Ashfield defence heading the ball into the net with the aid of a deflection from young Aeron Fitzpatrick to put the `hill 2-0 up. Thomas Starr struggled to get down to the 2nd goal and had picked up a recurrence of a knee injury and was replaced by Angus Hughes in goal. Ashfield 0 Maryhill 2. Just as Ashfield were trying to regroup a couple of minutes later a through ball saw Connor Hamilton drive forward with Ashfield Centre half Ian Begg and the Maryhill forward went down following a tackle. Referee Newell immediately gave the free-kick to the visitors and brandished a yellow Card at the young Ashfield Centre Half  before changing it to a Red and the hosts were reduced to 10 men. What a start for the home side however things got worse on 24 minutes when a sweeping move from Maryhill saw Baxter cutting the ball back to Logan Dempsey who had his initial shot blocked before slamming in the rebound past Hughes to go 3-0 up. Ashfield 0 Maryhill 3. The `field were completely `shell shocked` at this stage as they struggled to contain a rampant `hill side and try as they did they struggled to make an impact into the `hill defence with the strong wind behind them being more of a hindrance than a help. Another `hill shot went narrowly past the post before the `field eventually got their passing game together with new signing Joe Bradley winning his fair share in midfield backed by an industrious Greg Chalmers. As it was there was one chance left in the half and a volley from Logan Baxter for the visitors was tipped round the post by Hughes before Referee brought proceedings to a halt.

HT:- ASHFIELD 0 MARYHILL 3

The Ashfield team knew they had a `mountain to climb` in the second half against the ferocious wind and down to 10 men however following the substitute of Gary Fraser coming on for Kieran Findlay, the `field had their best spell of the game as the visitors adjusted to having the wind behind them. Despite `stepping up a gear` chances were at a premium for Ashfield and following an injury to Louis Robertson at Right back on the hour mark, it was the visitors that started to gain control and on 62 minutes as Ashfield had reverted to a back three Baxter picked the ball up midway inside the Ashfield half before cutting in and evading a tackle to deliver a low curling shot into the far corner of Angus Hughes net to the roar of the travelling support. Ashfield 0 Maryhill 4. The visitors gained further confidence from this and started to use the wind to their advantage as they continually broke down Ashfield`s attack and hit the hosts on the break. The Maryhill outfit increased their lead further on 69 minutes when a whipped in ball on the right hand side found Logan Dempsey in the box and the `hill forward guided his shot past Hughes to put the `hill 5-0 up. Ashfield 0 Maryhill 5. Peter Hill and his Management Team brought on further substitutes in Bonham, Allan and Aitken to try and `stem the flow` and also reduce the score-line but found the `hill defence in excellent form as a 6th goal was added as Connor Hamilton made some space for himself 22 yards out and his shot flew past Hughes. Ashfield 0 Maryhill 6.  This was getting `really sore` for Ashfield and despite digging in well for the next period two late goals on 87 and 90 minutes by Marriott and a wind assisted 30 yard effort from Logan Hunter saw the `hill go 8-0 ahead. Ashfield 0 Maryhill 8. The Referee brought the game to a halt shortly after and the visitors celebrated their win in what was a tremendous display of Football from them adapting to the conditions well, defending well and were clinical up front. As for the `field everything that went wrong, went wrong and as well as the heavy score-line they also picked up injuries to Thomas Starr, Louis Robertson and Luke Martin.

Peter Hill and his young Management Team will `dust themselves down` and prepare the Team well for the crucial game next week at Kilsyth Athletic. The `field have built up a `good squad` now & are hoping that this is only a `blip` in their development.

Man of the Match:- Not many to choose from today I`m afraid as none of the `field players produced anywhere near what they are capable of. Greg Chalmers did well when he `stepped into the breach"  at the back when Ashfield were reduced to 10 men before later substitutes restored the defence.

Match No 9:- Kilsyth Athletic 3 Ashfield 2 , West of Scotland League Division 2 - Saturday 16th August 2025 - Kick - Off 2pm. Kilsyth Sportsfield, Garrell Road, Kilsyth G65 9JX

This was Ashfield`s first visit to the Kilsyth Sportsground and the first competitive Meeting between the Teams. They had met prior in July 2023 in the Final of a Pre-Season Tournament - The Violet Memorial Cup held at Renfrew with the `field lifting the Cup by winning 3-2. Both teams have made slow starts to the Season in terms of picking up points however it is still very early for the two teams who have completed `Squad re-builds`. As Referee Daniel Boyle got proceedings underway in the brilliant sunshine, the crowd coming in would have almost missed the first goal. Kilsyth had the ball in Midfield and a lovely through ball by Captain Louis Campbell in between right back & Centre Half after 36 seconds found an onrushing Joe McKay who took one touch before despatching a lovely curling effort into the top corner of the net to the delight of the home support. Kilsyth Ath 1 Ashfield 0 . A wonder strike and what a start for the home side. The visitors did not let this affect them and started to dictate play from the middle of the park with Joe Bradley & Gary Fraser prominent and with Kaine McFarlane driving down the left flank at every opportunity. Kieran Findlay was played through on the right hand side after 8 minutes and his cutback was gathered by Connor Hughes however the Ashfield striker was unable to get his shot away as he was surrounded by Kilsyth defenders. Ger Stevenson was also utilising his pace and on 15 minutes went on a mazy run, evading a couple of tackles before driving the ball low and hard and inches past Aidan Carroll`s goal. Kilsyth were also knocking the ball about well & were utilising the `ball over the top` which was causing the `field back four some problems. Next up however was Gary Fraser following some neat play on the wing with the ball breaking to the Ex-Partick Thistle player 22 yards out and his low driven shot hit the base of the post and careered along the goal line but to the angst of the travelling support stayed out. A few minutes later and the same player made room for himself  at the edge of the box before despatching a fierce shot which was brilliantly stopped by Carroll however Hughes was first to react as he hooked the ball into the roof of the net. His celebrations were `short lived` however as Referee Boyle deemed Connor in an offside position and the goal was `chalked off`. To make matters worse 2 minutes later a lovely ball over the top of the Ashfield defence saw Scott Ballantyne break clear of his marker and as the Ashfield Keeper advanced he lobbed the ball into the net to the roar of the home support. Kilsyth Ath 2 Ashfield 0. A real `sucker blow` for the `field however they had to try and focus on reducing the deficit before half time. To their credit they tried hard but missed a guilt edge chance with Connor Hughes being put through on the half hour mark and as the Keeper advanced his lobbed effort sailed over the bar. The Match then ebbed and flowed for the remainder of the half however the home side almost stretched their lead if it hadn`t been for the head of Stephen Crossan who brilliantly headed a net bound effort past the post. The `field trooped off at half time knowing that they were still in the game and a big 45 minutes was in store.

HT:- KILSYTH ATH 2 ASHFIELD 0

The `field started where they had left off and were winning the `battle` in Midfield at this stage. A couple of balls were played into the Kilsyth box before Peter Hill decided to change things bringing on Aeron Fitzpatrick and Ross McDonald and within 2 minutes the `field had pulled back a goal. Following a couple of corners a lovely floated ball from Shaun Grady found the head of big Aeron who guided a header through a ruck of players and into the Kilsyth net. Kilsyth Ath 2 Ashfield 1. The midfield trio of McDonald, Fraser & Bradley were linking up well and it was the `field who were making the running at this stage with Ger Stevenson playing through the middle up front however the visitors showed in flashes how dangerous they could be with some real swift counter attacks. In the 63rd Minute top scorer Kieran Findlay picked up the ball on the edge of the box before pushing the ball past his marker making room for himself as he drilled the ball low and hard into the far corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. Kilsyth Ath 2 Ashfield 2. It was `game on` now with everything to play for. The home side also `tweaked` their formation to gain a hold in midfield and this area became really hard fought for the remainder of the half. The `field looked like they were going to go ahead when Kieran Findlay utilised his pace again to drive into the Kilsyth box and as the Keeper advanced his low shot missed the upright by inches. At the other end Lewis Sanderson had to block an effort from the home side as the game became rather `stretched`. `Tired legs` enforced a couple of substitutions for the visitors as they continued to press for the winner however it was the home side that got the all important `next goal` when a sweeping move saw the ball played through to Jamie Morrison who clipped the ball past the advancing Ashfield Keeper as it made its way into the far corner of the net. Kilsyth Ath 3 Ashfield 2. As the game went into the last 10 minutes the `field lay siege on the home side with many corners and a curling effort from Shaun Grady skimmed the top of the Bar with Goalkeeper Carroll beaten. A total of 4 minutes injury time was played and on the last minute the ball broke to Findlay on the edge of the six yard box however the Ashfield Striker went for power and the shot went over the bar. As the Referee brought proceedings to a close firstly it had to be said that it had been a greatly entertaining match with two teams committed to securing a victory. Ashfield will be feeling `sore` this morning as they certainly played some lovely football but did `scorn` many chances which ultimately cost them the Match however there are many positives to be taken from the game and I am sure that the `field will pick themselves up and go into next week`s home Match v Greenock with confidence.

Man of the Match:- Ashfield will play a lot worse and win games this Season and can count themselves extremely unlucky not to take something from the game. Kilsyth were extremely clinical today however the `field will be `cursing` themselves at not taking more of their chances. Special mentions to Ger Stevenson, Joe Bradley, Gary Fraser and Kaine McFarlane who was terrific down the left flank supported well by Shaun Grady however top scorer Kieran Findlay was excellent today utilising his pace to great effect and scoring a good 2nd goal for Ashfield.

Match No 10:- Ashfield 0 Greenock 3 , Saturday 23rd August 2025 - KO 2pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG - West of Scotland League Division 2.

Ashfield welcomed Greenock to Stepford Park this afternoon for the first meeting between the teams since April 2023. On that day the `field were heading for Promotion to the West of Scotland League Division 1, however today was all about the search of three valuable points to `kick-start` the League Campaign following a good performance last week at Kilsyth. Unfortunately a number of changes were forced upon Peter Hill & his Management Team due to work commitments and injuries however he was still able to field a strong side and a strong bench as they set about to try and get some valuable League points.

Referee James Catterson got proceedings underway at a very sunny and warm Stepford Park with the opening 10-15 minutes played at a fierce pace with the respective teams trying to get a stranglehold, especially in the congested midfield area. The game was not helped by the constant stop/start for minor infringements and this continued throughout the first half. The visitors were looking dangerous down the right flank and a couple of `wicked` cross balls were played in which on the whole were well defended by the back two pairing of Bonham and Fitzpatrick. Ashfield were trying to get some fluidity to their play in order to utilise the pace of the front three of Findlay, Stevenson and Grady and some neat inter play between Bradley and McDonald in midfield began to see the `field get some success also down the flanks. The game however was `turned on it`s head` after 23 minutes when a challenge by Ger Stevenson on a Greenock defender halted play. There were no major appeals from the visitors however to everyone`s astonishment the Referee brandished a Red Card to a distraught Stevenson who could not believe the decision alongside the bench and supporters of Ashfield. Perhaps his tackle was slightly late but there was no malice & surely did not warrant the punishment given. As it was the `field`s plans had to be adjusted with no substitutes at this stage for the home side. The game swung from end to end as the visitors tried to seize the initiative and a number of free-kicks were had by the Greenock Team coupled with a couple of corners down the left hand side. On the half hour mark an almighty `stramash` saw the ball `bob` about the `field`s penalty box before being nudged goal-wards with Jonny Kavanagh making a tremendous goal-line clearance which must have been very close to going over the line. The visitors should have gone ahead a couple of minutes later when Darroch broke clear of his markers only to see Sanderson pull off a great block.
The `field kept on `plugging` away and the ten minutes before half time saw the home side have their best spell of the Match. Firstly top scorer Kieran Findlay flicked the ball over the last Greenock defender before honing in on goal and as the Keeper advanced his left foot shot missed the post by inches. Another effort shortly after saw the ball flash across the goal with Findlay again failing to keep his shot down before the `field`s best chance of the half fell to Shaun Grady. The Ashfield left winger picked up the ball on 42 minutes before driving at the  home defence, evading a number of tackles and as he was about to `pull the trigger` was closed down which affected the power in his shot and his effort was well saved by the Greenock Keeper.

As the Referee brought proceedings to a halt for half time it was all to play for however the `field were conscious about the number of bookings picked up during the first half and would require to be careful in the second half.

HT:- ASHFIELD 0 GREENOCK 0

The game started as it left off with both teams trying to forage forward at every opportunity however the visitors had altered their formation slightly and as the half wore on began to stretch Ashfield. Chances were at a premium until the visitors made the breakthrough on 53 minutes which had more than its shade of misfortune for the `field.  A long throw-in at the East End of the Ground saw a Greenock player power in a header which was brilliantly saved by Sanderson as he palmed the ball in the air and what looked like over the crossbar however the ball had not cleared for a corner and came down landing on Sanderson`s ankle before trickling over the line to put Greenock ahead. The goal summed up the afternoon the `field were having. Ashfield 0 Greenock 1. Ashfield tried to claw their way back into the game and the game again `turned on its head` when Kieran Findlay utilised his pace down the left wing this time before being crudely brought down leaving the Ashfield player in some discomfort. All eyes were on the Referee considering what he had sent Stevenson off for earlier in the Match however on this occasion he chose to brandish a yellow card instead. Unfortunately Kieran was unable to carry on and was replaced by Ex-Renfrew player Aaron Chauhdry. The tide was beginning to `flow` towards the `field`s goal as the visitors stepped up the pace and you could see the 10 men begin to tire and on 66 minutes a ball over the top found an onrushing Beckley who lashed the ball into the roof of the net to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield 0 Greenock 2. The home side were struggling to make inroads into the Greenock half however were defending well and a couple of further substitutions were made by Ashfield bringing on Sean Allan and Kaine McFarlane to freshen things up. The `field were competing well but were hit by a `sucker punch` with around 10 minutes to go when a low cross into the box saw Beckley again guide his shot past Sanderson to put the Renfrewshire Team 3-0 up. Ashfield 0 Greenock 3. As it was the rest of the Match was played out with the `field trying to reduce the deficit and the visitors hitting them on the break before Referee Catterson brought proceedings to a close.

A desperately disappointing afternoon for the `field and they will have to wait another couple of weeks before being able to try and get some points on the board. It is `Cup Action` next week when Ashfield welcome Sean Kenney and his Ardeer Thistle Team to Stepford in what looks like being a cracker of a tie.

Man of the Match:- A difficult Match for the `field which was not helped by some poor Refereeing decisions which saw the `field have to defend especially when down to 10 men. Euan Bonham won most of his jousts, especially in the first half when some dangerous cross balls were played in from the flanks. Special mention to Kyle Laughlin, Aeron Fitzpatrick and Joe Bradley.

Match No 11:- Ashfield 3 Ardeer Thistle 2 , Saturday 30th August 2025 - KO 2.30pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG. Scottish Junior Cup 2nd Round (Scottish Communities Cup).

Ashfield welcomed the players, Management and Supporters of Ardeer Thistle to a wet and windy Stepford in the 2nd Round of the Scottish Junior Cup or the new Scottish Communities Cup as it is now known as. The Match was a welcome break from the scrambling for League points in the respective Divisions and the `field knew they would be in for a stern test against a Team performing extremely well and having scored 11 goals in their last 2 games. The `field were almost back to full strength with only a couple of players missing through injury and work commitments.
Referee Cameron Lyle got proceedings underway with the crowd number down on usual with the weather having an effect. The Match itself started off at a great pace and from early on it had the feel of a real `Cup Tie` to it with both sides foraging forward at every opportunity. An early scare for the `field was not `heeded` and it was the visitors who scored a tremendous `team` goal after only 5 minutes. The ball was worked from midfield and played down the right flank with the ball being `whipped` in to the edge of the six yard box and was met by the onrushing Ardeer Captain Thomas Miller who drilled the ball past Sanderson in the Ashfield goal with close attention from the `field defenders. Ashfield 0 Ardeer Thistle 1. The `field could not have wished for a worst start however the home side picked themselves up and within a couple of minutes Kieran Findlay and Ger Stevenson were causing problems within the visiting defence. On the 10th minute, Ashfield had loud appeals for a penalty however Referee Lyle deemed the infringement on the edge of the box. Up stepped Ross McDonald and he drove the ball into the far corner of the net to the delight of the home support. This was Ross`s 2nd goal of the Season from a set piece and although it wasn`t as spectacular as his 25 yarder against Maryhill it was certainly a vital goal bringing the `field back into the game. Ashfield 1 Ardeer Thistle 1. The game swung from end to end for the next period as the rain lashed down with the `field having the best of the chances with Kieran Findlay utilising his pace twice to break clear of his markers however both powerful attempts missed the far post by inches. Ardeer themselves were extremely dangerous from set-pieces and a corner on the half hour mark was guided onto the far post by the Ardeer Centre half and cleared to safety. Next up Sanderson had to palm an angled shot around his post. The game was being played in good spirits and continued to ebb and flow with the last 10 minutes of the half pretty even although Shaun Grady on the left flank for Ashfield was causing the Thistle defence real problems as he utilised his pace. As it was there was no further scoring as the players went in for their Half time `cuppa` and out of the incessant rain.

HT:- ASHFIELD 1 ARDEER THISTLE 1

There were no changes at Half time to the home team as they attacked the West End of the ground, but one thing that was for sure was that the rain never gave up during the whole 90 minutes. The home side were looking good coming forward and again Kieran Findlay was looking the most likely with his weaving in and out of play and utilising his pace to great effect. However with virtually their first foray up the field, the visitors were awarded a corner on the left hand side which was well delivered into the front post. The ball took a deflection of one of the Ashfield players Shaun Grady and dipped under the crossbar at the far corner to the delight of the travelling support. Ashfield 1 Ardeer Thistle 2. A bad time to lose a goal for the `field however as in the first half they `dusted themselves down` and drove forward in search of an equaliser and after a period of sustained pressure they pulled level nine minutes later when a drive from the edge of the box from Greg Chalmers `stung` the hands of Campbell in the Ardeer Goal who could only parry the ball out with Kieran Findlay first to react as he lashed the ball home for his 7th Goal of the Season. It was game on again. Ashfield 2 Ardeer Thistle 2. Peter Hill & his Management Team brought on Aaron Chauhdry to freshen up the attack and within a couple of minutes the substitute had an attempt which narrowly missed the upright. Next up he broke clear of his markers and as he bore down on goal he opted to go round the Keeper but was closed down and the chance was lost. It wasn`t all Ashfield as the visitors caused alarm every time they got a set-piece. However Aeron Fitzpatrick and Euan Bonham did a good job of keeping the chances down to a minimum. As the clock ticked on, both teams were conscious that the tie would go straight to penalties with no extra-time in the Scottish Junior Cup. As it was it looked like Ashfield had won the game when a great cut back found an onrushing Chauhdry however in his defence the ball came at him very quickly and he was unable to fully adjust as his effort from 6 yards flew past the far post.
As the clock ticked 90 minutes, the `field utilised the flanks well again and a ball was played across the edge of the box where substitute Sean Allan was first to react as he guided a shot goal-wards which took a deflection and flew past Campbell in the Ardeer goal and into the net to spark wild celebrations from the Ashfield support. Ashfield 3 Ardeer Thistle 2. The Referee indicated 3 minutes of extra time which felt longer for the home side as the visitors threw everything at Ashfield however the home side defended well. With seconds to go the Ayrshire men won a corner on the far right hand side and it was a case of `everyone up`. The ball was `whipped` in with pace to the far post and although an Ardeer player got on the end of it he was unable to guide the ball goal-wards to the relief of the `field with Referee Lyle bringing an end to a pulsating 90 minutes shortly after.

A great victory for Ashfield against a very talented Ardeer outfit who will I`m sure be competing at the top end of their League and we wish Sean Kenney and his Team all the best for the remainder of the Season.

It`s back to League business next week for the `field as they make the long journey down to SE Ayrshire and an encounter with Maybole.

Man of the Match:- Joe Bradley put in a Captain`s `innings` this afternoon as he helped the young Ashfield Team pull themselves back from 1-0 & 2-1 down ably assisted by Ross McDonald in the Midfield area. The front three of Findlay, Stevenson and Grady put on a tremendous show of pace with Aaron Chauhdry coming off the bench in the 2nd half to good effect. The `field defenders had to be at their best against a very good Ardeer Team however the `field will be delighted with the amount of chances made and Kieran Findlay was at the `heart` of most of them as he gave the Ayrshire Team`s back four a torrid time and deserves this week`s accolade.

Match No 12:- Maybole 3 Ashfield 1, Ladywell Stadium, Maybole - Saturday 6th September 2025 - Kick Off 2pm. West of Scotland League Division 2.

It has traditionally been an entertaining game between Ashfield and Maybole in Ayrshire, normally with plenty of goals and incident and on this occasion both teams headed into the game desperate to try and haul themselves further up the League. The `field `survived` the long journey down, via the Traffic at the Air Show in Ayr, and set about the start of the game where they had left off against Ardeer Thistle in the Scottish Junior Cup. Straight from Kick-Off the visitors were looking good with fast passing movement and excellent link up play. Sean Allan & Kyle Lauchlan were working well down the right flank and Joe Bradley was dictating things in midfield ably supported by Greg Chalmers and after 10 minutes got their reward for their lively start. A couple of corners were had which were well defended by the Maybole defence however a dipping corner on this occasion was only partially cleared to the edge of the box where Sean Allan picked up the loose ball and rifled a shot past McAllister and into the back of the net. A great strike from Sean. Maybole 0 Ashfield 1. The `field tried to capitalise on this lead and Maybole looked vulnerable at this stage. Chauhdry had been looking good in the early stages however after 20 minutes he pulled up with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Kieran Findlay. With the home side`s first major foray up the park on 23 minutes they certainly made good use of it after some neat play on the edge of the box, Liam Miller drove the ball into the top corner of the net via the the post and bar to the roar of the home support. Maybole 1 Ashfield 1. A blow for Ashfield after such a good start to the game however they tried to forage forward up the field at every opportunity. As the half wore on the home side buoyed by the equaliser started to look dangerous and with 3 minutes left in the half a ball into the middle was missed by the unfortunate Euan Bonham who had been on great form and the ball was picked up by the No 9 of Maybole Michael McPeake who swivelled and drove a shot past the despairing arms of Sanderson to put the home side ahead. Maybole 2 Ashfield 1. To make matters worse young Stephen Crossan pulled up and was struggling with an injury however before he could get substituted Maybole won a corner on the stroke of Half time. The ball was cleared to the edge of the box and a whipped in shot flew past a ruck of players and ended up in the corner of the net to the delight of the home support. Maybole 3 Ashfield 1. From a commanding position, the `field now found themselves with a `mountain to climb` as Referee Aidan Adam brought first half proceedings to a close with Manager Peter Hill having to change his `Team talk` at the interval.

HT:- MAYBOLE 3 ASHFIELD 1

The `field made a couple of changes at the start of the 2nd half bringing on the experience of Ex-Patrick Thistle player Gary Fraser and Kaine McFarlane at left back as they tried to `claw` themselves back into the game. The Maybole defence were in a `mean mood` and chances were at a premium in the early stages. Kieran Findlay`s pace however started to cause the home defence problems after the hour mark and the `field should have reduced the deficit if it hadn`t been for two wonder saves from McAllister in the Maybole goal. A corner from the `field was headed goal-wards finding Kieran Findlay. Ashfield`s top scorer swivelled and drove the ball goal-wards only to see the ball blocked on the line by the Keeper and his follow up was further blocked before being scrambled to safety. The reaction of the defenders and Keeper was there to see as a certain goal had been avoided. It was all Ashfield at this stage with the home side working hard at restricting chances however with 18 minutes left on the clock the `field were denied again by the feet this time of McAllister. A lovely sweeping move down the left flank saw McFarlane whip in a cross for Findlay to header the ball from the penalty spot only to be denied by the legs of the Keeper. You could visibly see the effects of the save on the Ashfield players.

As the clock ticked towards the last part of the game, Maybole almost increased their lead with 5 minutes to go when a shot from the edge of the box was parried round the post by Sanderson. Despite Ashfield pushing forward after this there were no further chances and the home side were delighted when the Referee brought proceedings to a close.

A disappointing result for Ashfield especially after such a good start as we take a further break from the League again and the `field must `dust themselves down` for the visit of Creetown to Stepford next Saturday (13th) in the 2nd Round of the South Challenge Cup before entertaining Kilsyth Rangers in the League on the 27th September.

Man of the Match:- A commanding performance from Aeron Fitzpatrick for the `field today. There were some notable performances especially in the opening 25 minutes today with Joe Bradley `pulling the strings` in Midfield. Kieron Findlay did well coming off the bench in the 2nd period but was thwarted by the `bole Keeper.

Match No 13:- Ashfield 2 Creetown 1 , South Challenge Cup 2nd Round, Saturday 13th September 2025 - KO 2pm - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG

Ashfield welcomed South of Scotland League Team Creetown FC to Stepford Park yesterday in the South Challenge Cup 3rd Round and the small attendance were treated to a really enjoyable Cup tie. Peter Hill and his fellow Ashfield Management Team had a `torrid` week pulling the starting eleven together due to injuries and work commitments and no less than 7 of Callum Coghill`s impressive U20 Squad were `called up` coupled with the termination of a Loan arrangement for Rhys Martin. The weather, which certainly affected the size of the crowd, was not kind yesterday afternoon with frequent deluges of rain throughout the 90 minutes.

Referee Joshua Horan got proceedings underway with both teams in their traditional strips and it was the `field who had the wind advantage in the first half as they put the visitors under pressure early on and David Aitken had a chance within the first 5 minutes where he failed to connect properly. The midfield area was heavily congested with both teams trying to gain control however it was the enthusiasm of young Manus Connor and Sean Allan ably backed up by Greg Chalmers they were winning the battle as they started to thread balls through to Rhys Martin on the right and an overlapping left full back in Andy Carruthers who was whipping in some terrific balls. The aforementioned had a chance on the 15 minute mark making room for himself after a mazy run however his shot sailed over Andrew Downie`s goal. Rhys Martin was `catching the eye` on the right hand side with his pace and again some good balls into the middle narrowly failed to connect with Aitken and Stevenson. However on the 22 minute mark the `field should have gone ahead after Rhys Martin weaved his way past a couple of tackles before driving through on goal and as the Keeper narrowed the angle he drove his shot inches past the post to the anguish of the home support.
It wasn`t all `one way traffic` and a couple of set pieces which were well delivered caused trouble in the `field defence. A Whipped in free-kick on the right hand side saw Ashfield Captain Fitzpatrick get his head to the ball which deflected past the faraway post. The resultant corner caused `mayhem` when it sailed through a number of players before being cleared. The deadlock however was finally broken on 36 minutes after a lovely sweeping move from Ashfield. Rhys Martin was played down the right flank before he cut the ball back to Sean Allan and the young midfielder laid the ball into the path of an onrushing Manus Connor who cooly `passed` the ball into the corner of the net to the roar from the home support. A great goal from Ashfield. Ashfield 1 Creetown 0. The home side upped the tempo and a number of wind assisted shots were taken however failed to trouble Downie before Referee Horan brought first half proceedings to a halt.

HT:- ASHFIELD 1 CREETOWN 0

The game started in the same vein as the first half with the `field pressing forward at every opportunity however this half they were up against the wind. The `field were passing well at this stage and a break from Ger Stevenson on the the left hand side of the box saw his shot go past the far post. Manus Connor was next up as his shot sailed over the bar however the `field should have gone further ahead on 55 minutes when Kyle Lauchlan picked up the ball down the right wing before cutting in and delivering an excellent ball to the edge of the six yard box with David Aitken getting ahead of his marker however with the goal gaping the on-Loan Drumchapel Utd player lifted the ball over the bar. A real let off for the visitors as the rain lashed down in the east end of Glasgow. Ger Stevenson also had an effort shortly after but his shot with well gathered by the Creetown Keeper at the 2nd attempt. The visitors made a couple of substitutes to freshen things up and began to exert some pressure on Ashfield and within a couple of minutes equalised with 16 minutes left on the clock. Some neat interplay down the right flank saw Tyler Rogers cut in and drive past Fitzpatrick before whipping the ball into the top corner of the net to the delight of the Management and players of Creetown. An excellent finish and it was now `game on`. Ashfield 1 Creetown 1. The `field to their credit brought on Ex-Partick and Gretna Striker Jordan Kemoe and he made an immediate impact on the left hand side. However with 10 minutes to go the game was turned `on its head` when a lofted ball was played over the Ashfield defence on the right hand side and as Fitzpatrick and Rogers went for the loose ball, the Ashfield Keeper Lewis Sanderson slid out to claim the ball however slid out of his box on the wet surface with the Referee pointing for a free-kick and producing a straight Red Card to the Ashfield Keeper for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity. A trifle harsh however with the rules being as they are the Referee had no option with Substitute Goalkeeper Thomas Starr being called into action immediately tipping a net bound effort over the bar. As the clock ticked towards the dreaded Penalties, the `field threw everything at Creetown with shots reigning in which on the whole were well defended. A couple of corners were had before one broke to Stevenson and his net bound bound effort was initially blocked by his own player before being cleared for a further corner. As the Match went into the 93rd minute an in-swinging cross from Kyle Lauchlan saw Euan Bonham `peel away` from his marker at the far post and the Ashfield Centre half bulleted his header into the back of the net to spark celebrations on the touchline and amongst the players. A great finish from Bonham. Ashfield 2 Creetown 1. There was barely time to `centre the ball` before Referee Horan brought proceedings to a close and for the second time in 2 years, Ashfield defeated Creetown in this Cup with last gasp goals. (October `23, Bobby Barr scored 90th Minute Penalty for Ashfield at Creetown to win Match 4-3)

Ashfield`s name goes into the Hat for the 3rd Round Draw shortly and the `field now have a break until getting back to league action on the 27th September when they welcome Kilsyth Rangers to Stepford - 2pm KO.

We wish Creetown FC all the best for the remainder of the Season.

Man of the Match:-  Despite the injury crisis that unfolded during the week, the `young team` produced an excellent performance against our South of Scotland League opponents thoroughly deserving their win albeit leaving it rather late. Special mentions to Manus Connor, Andy Carruthers, Sean Allan and Rhys Martin however Kyle Lauchlan did not put a foot wrong all afternoon and was instrumental in many of the Ashfield attacking moves. The young Ashfield right back is now getting a good run of games following his injuries of last Season and is really making a difference to the Team.

Match No 15:- Muirkirk 5 Ashfield 2 , Saturday 11th October 2025 - Kick off 2pm - FinestCarMats.Co.uk South Challenge Cup 3rd Round. Burnside Park, Muirkirk, KA18 3RE

A warm welcome was received by the Officials of Muirkirk FC and Burnside Park was looking well considering the rain during the week. Games over the years between the teams have been exciting affairs with plenty of goals and yesterday`s Cup tie was no exception. Peter Hill and his Ashfield Management Team had to work hard this week dealing with many injuries and unavailability however a good team graced the turf in their away kit of All Red. Ex-Partick Thistle man Gary Fraser was `back in the fold` starting the game at Centre half but changed in the second half to his normal midfield berth due to missing players Euan Bonham and Joe Bradley. The home side had an Ex-Ashfield Star in their line up and it was good to see Shaun Fraser still performing to an exceptional standard albeit against Ashfield today.
Referee Michael Williamson from Dumfries got proceedings under way however the visitors were extremely disappointed in the booking of Midfielder Ross McDonald after only 2 minutes. Worse was to follow for the `field in the early stages as the home side exerted some sustained pressure winning a corner down at the far left corner. A whipped in delivery to the far post saw Regan Cusick outjump his marker to head low past Starrs in the Ashfield goal to the roar of the home support. Muirkirk 1 Ashfield 0. A bad start for the `field however to their credit picked up the pace and the next 20 minutes was a real cup tie with the game going from one end to another. Clear cut chances were at a premium as defences remained solid.

The visitors were looking dangerous through the pace of Kieran Findlay and the Ashfield top scorer broke down the flanks on a couple of occasions only to see his cut backs cleared well. The home side were extremely dangerous at set-pieces and on the 26th minute increased their lead from another corner. A Shaun Fraser corner this time whipped in to the near post saw new signing Lewis McCracken glance a header to the far post which was cleared off the line by Ross McDonald. To the angst of Ashfield players and supporters, Referee Williamson deemed that the ball had crossed the line and the `field were 2-0 down. Muirkirk 2 Ashfield 0. The home side then stepped `up a gear` and for the remainder of the first half were in control of the game despite Ashfield`s efforts. The unfortunate Ross McDonald had to go off injured for Ashfield and was replaced by Kaine McFarlane with Chauhdry moving up front as the visitors changed things around however with 7 minutes to go until half time a swift break down the left flank saw the ball played into Lewis McCracken who found space for himself just inside the box before despatching a vicious low drive which found the bottom left hand corner of Thomas Starr`s net to the delight of the home support. Muirkirk 3 Ashfield 0. Ashfield had been keen not to lose any more goals before half time and for a good 5 minute spell tried to pull a goal back however right on half time the `field lost the ball in the Muirkirk penalty area and it was the home side who broke with pace and as the ball was cut back into the path of Cusick again, the Ashfield Keeper denied him with a great stop however the winger followed up to prod the ball in past the despairing arms of Starrs to surely book Muirkirk`s place in the next round. Muirkirk 4 Ashfield 0

HT:- MUIRKIRK 4 ASHFIELD 0

The `field knew they had a `mountain to climb` to try and claw their way back into the Cup tie however to their enormous credit they put on an excellent show creating chances and playing some good football against an impressive Muirkirk outfit. The attitude was `spot on` and they did not let the score-line affect their play as they forced the home side back. Gary Fraser had moved into Midfield with Greg Chalmers moving to the back four as Ashfield started to exert some sustained pressure and within 5 minutes of the restart had pulled a goal back. A break from the visitors saw Kieran Findlay evade the `kirk `offside trap as he bore down on goal before pushing the ball past the advancing Muirkirk Keeper Nelson and calmly slotting the ball into the net. Muirkirk 4 Ashfield 1. A couple of corners ensued but were well defended then shortly after Ashfield had the ball in the net which was ruled for offside. Next up was a huge penalty claim for the visitors as winger Shaun Grady was upended in the box only for Referee Williamson to wave play on. Another decision shortly after did not go the `field`s way as Kieran Findlay was played through however the Referee blew for an offside decision despite the protests from the Ashfield Bench and support. As it was the home side `weathered the storm` and were always dangerous on the counter and as the game went into the final 20 minutes it was Shaun Fraser who worked his `magic` playing a defence splitting pass and finding substitute Jamie McDermott who prodded the ball past the advancing Ashfield Keeper to `put the tie to bed`. Muirkirk 5 Ashfield 1. The `field kept pressing as they were determined to try and reduce the deficit and this they did with 6 minutes left on the clock. Excellent closing down play by Evan Higgins saw the `kirk defender play the ball back to the Keeper who saw Higgins closing him down and took his `eye off the ball` as the back pass trickled into the corner of the net despite his efforts. Muirkirk 5 Ashfield 2. The Match came to a close shortly after and it is the East Ayrshire Team that will be in the hat for the 4th Round.
Ashfield contributed to an excellent Cup tie however the damage was done in the latter half of the first half with some avoidable goals being conceded.

We wish Muirkirk all the best and thank them for their excellent hospitality yesterday. The `field now turn their attention to the 3rd Round of the Scottish Communities Cup next Saturday when they visit Lesmahagow.

Man of the Match:- Despite the score-line, Ashfield competed really well and played some lovely Football especially in the Second Half and if they had had that bit of luck could have got themselves back in the game however the damage was done in the latter stages of the first half. There were some notable performances however Kieran Findlay was at the heart of all Ashfield`s attacking moves, scoring one and could have had more.

Match No 16:- Lesmahagow 4 Ashfield 1 , 3pillars Scottish Communities Cup 3rd Round, Craighead Park, Lesmahagow ML11 0HE     - Saturday 18th October 2025 - KO 2.30pm.

The `field were back on `familiar territory` after already visiting Craighead Park on the opening day of the Season however there were quite a lot of changes to the respective line-ups compared to that day. The Park, although a bit heavy was in good condition and the large crowd were treated to a Cup tie which unfortunately for the visitors was virtually over by half time.
The `field entered the Match following a good second half display in the Cup defeat at Muirkirk last Saturday with Euan Bonham back in defence and the Glasgow Team were sporting their new third kit of Yellow and Black.
Referee Stuart Broadfoot got the action underway and straight from kick-off both teams went `hammer and tong` at each other in typical Junior Cup fashion. A couple of early crosses into the Ashfield box caused alarm with the visitors also playing some lovely football weaving down both flanks with just the final ball not meeting its intended forward player. Lewis Sanderson, who was a last minute replacement for Thomas Starrs who took ill in the `warm up` was kept busy with a couple of low shots in which he gathered well whereas the `field were probably a bit too over elaborate and the `gow Keeper was not tested in any great way.

The deadlock was broken just as the game was settling down on 20 minutes when following a clearance the ball fell to an advancing Luke Meikle and his 20 yard drive found the bottom corner of Lewis Sanderson`s goal to the delight of the home support. Lesmahagow 1 Ashfield 0. Just as Ashfield were beginning to try and claw their way back into the game their plans were made much harder when after some neat interplay from the home side the ball was played to Mason Kelman, who was not closed down quick enough and the `gow midfielder had time to turn and despatch a curling right foot shot from 22 yards out past the despairing arms of Sanderson to put the `gow 2-0 ahead. A real bow for Ashfield with the home side now looking to finish off the tie. Lesmahagow 2 Ashfield 0. To their credit Ashfield had the better of the next 10/15 minutes forcing the home side back however chances were at a premium as the home defence stood firm and the Ashfield full back and wingers were struggling to find their men in a crowded box. With 5 minutes left of a frantic half the home side won a corner at the bottom end of the ground which was whipped in. Unfortunately for the `field Connor McArdle was first to meet the ball and his downward header bounced off the ground and up into the top corner of the net to the roar of the `gow faithful leaving the `field with a `mountain to climb` now. Lesmahagow 3 Ashfield 0. For the second week running the `field were virtually out of a Cup tie after only 45 minutes and Peter Hill and his Management Team had a lot of work to do at half time to try and pull this tie back.

HT:- LESMAHAGOW 3 ASHFIELD 0

Ashfield made one immediate change at the start of the second half with the impressive Manus Connor coming on for an ill Aaron Chauhdry and it was the `field that started the brightest knocking the ball about well. Kaine McFarlane was working tirelessly down the left flank and whipped in a couple of balls which unfortunately didn`t meet it`s target however on the hour mark a lovely ball into the box saw Kieran Findlay get ahead of his marker and his header was brilliantly saved by Lewis Duffy in the Lesmahagow goal. Shortly after he was tested again as a promising move saw the ball break out to Greg Chalmers with the Ashfield Midfielder lashing the ball goal-wards only to see Duffy hold well. Next up was a good chance for the home side as Duddy curled in a shot which was brilliantly palmed away by Sanderson and shortly after the Ashfield Keeper blocked well at his near post as Duddy again was becoming a problem for Ashfield. The visitors made a couple more substitutes bringing on Ex-Partick Midfielder Gary Fraser and young Cian Kinney from the successful U20s squad, however after a snap shot from Kinney it was the home side that broke well down the left hand side before delivering a low hard cross to the far post on 78 minutes finding an onrushing Robbie Duddy who drove the ball home from a tight angle to ensure the `gow`s name went into the hat for Round 4. Lesmahagow 4 Ashfield 0. A bit of a harsh score-line for the `field at this stage and to their credit kept `at it` and won a free-kick on the edge of the box 4 minutes later. Manus Connor whipped the ball round the wall and into the net for his 2nd Ashfield Goal of the campaign. Lesmahagow 4 Ashfield 1. Despite the visitor`s efforts they were unable to `close the gap` as Referee Broadfoot brought proceedings to a close.

It`s back to important League business for the `field next week and a trip to Kingshill Park, home of Forth Wanderers.

We thank Lesmahagow for their kind hospitality and wish them well in the next round of the Cup.

Man of the Match:- Greg Chalmers was everywhere today, winning most of his `duels` and spreading the ball well to the flanks & probably had Ashfield`s best effort in the game with a fierce shot which was well saved by the `gow Keeper. Special mentions to both full backs, Kaine McFarlane and Kyle Lauchlin for foraging forward at every opportunity and for a good first half from Aaron Chauhdry & a good second half from Keeper Lewis Sanderson.

Match No 17:- Forth Wanderers 1 Ashfield 4, West of Scotland League Division 2 - Kingshill Park, Forth, Lanarkshire ML. - Saturday 25th October 2025

The `field made the journey `across country` to the town of Forth and were greeted with beautiful sunshine albeit very cold indeed. Both sides went into the game looking to boost their points tally and climb the League table after recent Cup exploits. The visitors won their last League game well in beating Kilsyth Rangers at the end of September & a victory today could possibly see them leapfrog more teams as Peter Hill`s Team start to take shape.
As Referee Ross Menzies got play underway the visitors, lining up in their new 3rd Kit of Yellow & Black, had made a couple of changes from their Cup defeat at Lesmahagow seven days ago bringing in Thomas Starrs in Goal, Ross McDonald at right back and parading new signing Mason Durham from Rutherglen Glencairn. The home side were playing in their traditional Red with the game starting off at a fast and furious pace. After an initial period of closing each other down it was the visitors that started to utilise the width of the big playing surface with Shaun Grady on the left flank and Sean Allan & Kieran Findlay down the right making an impact. The midfield area was congested however Greg Chalmers was winning more than his fair share of the ball and his passing to the forward players was of a really high standard. A lovely move down the right on seven minutes saw the ball whipped across by Mason Durham with the Forth Keeper diverting the ball away to safety. Shortly after a lovely sweeping move from Shaun Grady and an overlap from Kaine McFarlane saw the ball whipped in to the far post area where an onrushing Sean Allan drove his shot off the base of the post before being cleared to safety. Kieran Findlay was next up as his turn in the box saw his curling effort come off the outside of the post as the `field put the pressure on. Their early play was finally rewarded following a defensive clearance on 11 minutes which fell to Kieran Findlay on the edge of the box and Ashfield`s top scorer weaved past his marker cut in and fired a curling left foot effort into the top corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. A great goal from Kieran ! Forth Wanderers 0 Ashfield 1. This goal gave the home side a `jolt` and some slick play saw a chance closed down by Euan Bonham at the back for Ashfield. Just as Ashfield looked to build on their early lead a ball played over the Ashfield back two saw a misunderstanding with Thomas Starrs in the Goal who failed to gather and the Forth Striker McLaughlan nipped in to equalise to the angst of the Ashfield bench. Forth Wanderers 1 Ashfield 1. A bad goal for the `field to concede after such a good start however to their credit they did not let this affect them as they began to get their passing game `in gear` again. The home side however could have gone ahead on 22 minutes after a move down the right saw the ball played into the path of McLaughlan again and his driven shot was palmed around the post by Starrs. Forth were extremely dangerous at set-pieces with a substantial height advantage however the visiting defence coped well. Shaun Grady was having a terrific game on the left flank for the visitors and on 41 minutes a tremendous 25 yard lofted pass from Greg Chalmers found the Ashfield winger and as he gathered the ball he evaded two tackles before foraging into the box despatching a terrific shot into the roof of the net to put the `field ahead again. A wonderful strike from Shaun. Forth Wanderers 1 Ashfield 2. It was all `one way` traffic at this stage as the game became rather tousy and a number of `robust` tackles brought out some Cards to both sides. As the game approached half time it was the `field that managed to get their `noses further in front` after winning a free kick some 25 yards out. Ross McDonald whipped in a terrific delivery keeping the ball low and it was Ashfield Captain Aeron Fitzpatrick who guided a shot with his left foot past the despairing arms of Lewis Hamilton in the Forth goal to put the `field 3-1 up. This was Aeron`s 4th Goal of the Season. Forth Wanderers 1 Ashfield 3. The Referee had barely enough time to centre the ball before blowing for half time and the `field could be delighted with their first half performance.

HT:- FORTH WANDERERS 1 ASHFIELD 3

The home side made a number of substitutions at the start of the second half and this gave the home side a lift as they had a `real go` at Ashfield in the early stages securing a number of corners at the North End of the Ground. Despite the height advantage to the home side, Thomas Starrs marshalled his defence well however on 50 minutes a second phase ball saw a header come back of the post to the relief of the visitors. Shortly after Forth won a free-kick some 25 yards out which was curled in by Kyle Haggerty  cracking off the top of the bar before being cleared to safety. The `field survived the early storm and began to get control of midfield again however chances were at a premium in the second half. Peter Hill made a number of substitutions, once enforced due to Captain Aeron Fitzpatrick having to go off injured with Kyle Stewart from the U20s coming on for his 2nd First Team League game in a row with David Aitken and Manus Connor also coming on to `bolster` the visitors. Again, similar to the first half, the tackles were very competitive and a number fell foul of Ross Menzies` yellow Card. The game however was finally `put to bed` with 15 minutes remaining as the ball was played into Shaun Grady midway inside the Forth half. The Ashfield winger cut into the Centre gliding past a couple of tackles before despatching a low drive into the corner of the net the the delight of the Bench and travelling fans. A great double from Shaun. Forth Wanderers 1 Ashfield 4. The game remained competitive tight up until the end and it was the `field that secured the points to take back to Glasgow.

A very good victory for Ashfield this afternoon which builds on their previous League victory and as the `field take a break for West of Scotland Cup duty, they welcome Bonnyton Thistle to Stepford Park in their next League game on the 8th November.

Man of the Match:- An excellent performance from Ashfield today thoroughly deserving of victory and they could have had more hitting the woodwork twice.
