Match No 1:- Bonnyton Thistle 4 Ashfield 0 - Pre-Season Friendly - Saturday 4th July 2026 - Kick-Off 2pm - Townholm Arena, Harriet Road, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire KA3 1BB
Well it certainly wasn`t like a day in early July as the rain lashed down for the whole 90 minutes of a very competitive Pre-Season Friendly. The hosts had started their matches a week before Ashfield putting 4 past Kilmarnock Reserves and the `field knew that their newly assembled Team would take time to `bed in`. The first half was played at a great pace with the match swinging from end to end. Despite having the better of the early play it was Bonnyton that made the breakthrough on 13 minutes with Dylan Howarth breaking clear of Ashfield`s offside trap to drive the ball low and hard into the corner of the net. Bonnyton Thistle 1 Ashfield 0. The visitors were just adjusting themselves to being a goal down when Lewis Sanderson in the Ashfield goal was picking the ball out of the net again when Kyle Dinnett cut in from the right flank before despatching a wonderful effort in the top corner of the net. Bonnyton Thistle 2 Ashfield 0. To their credit Ashfield foraged forward at every opportunity with Dylan Caddis in the home goal saving twice from Adam Cummings. Right on the interval Sean Allan should have reduced the deficit when the ball was played across goal only to see his effort sail over the bar. At times the game got rather feisty with Referee Holley deciding to keep his Card(s) in his pocket during the friendly.

Peter Hill & his Coaching Staff made 6 changes to the second half line up as they set about narrowing the gap in the incessant rain. The game itself, as with friendlies tailed off in terms of pace and intensity but it didn`t stop the home side from getting themselves a third goal on 53 minutes when a curling free kick was met early by Jack Isherwood and his header gave Sanderson no chance. Bonnyton Thstle 3 Ashfield 0. Leo McCartney was showing some excellent play in turning his marker on a number of occasion s however the final ball was well defended by the Thistle defence. At the other end Substitute Jay Woods, Ashfield`s recent signing from Greenock never lost a 50/50 all afternoon and highlighted the stiff competition for places. The `field tried their best to claw themselves back into the game however the substitution from Thistle bringing on Jordan Baird put the `field on the back foot & they succumbed albeit from a defensive error on 83 minutes for Louis Kerr to complete the scoring. Bonnyton Thistle 4 Ashfield 0.
An excellent workout and the `field will probably not meet a better team this Season as the home side had certainly improved from last Season`s Team on this showing. No major injuries to report ahead of game v Dalbeattie Star on Tuesday night - 7.30pm KO. Please note this game has been moved from Stepford Park to the Ibrox Complex, Edmiston Road, Govan (Opposite Ibrox Stadium).

Man of the Match:- An excellent work out against a very good team with every player tested. Jordan Brown, Kyle Stewart and Adam Cummings lasted full 90 minutes & Jordan just edges it this week showing a high level of fitness throughout.

Match No 2:- Ashfield 3 Dalbeattie Star 1 , Tuesday 7th July 2026 - Kick Off 8pm. Pre-Season Friendly - Ibrox Complex, 80 Hinshelwood Drive, Glasgow G51 2XP
Ashfield`s one and only home friendly of the Season had to be switched from Stepford Park to the Ibrox Complex as we welcomed West Lowland Side Dalbeattie Star in what we would be another good test as the build up to the start of the Season continued.
Already at this stage Peter Hill and his Coaching Staff have built up a strong squad with competition for places extremely competitive.
Referee Andrew Campbell got proceedings underway with the backdrop of the main stand at Ibrox Stadium looming large behind the players and within 10 seconds of the Match it was Dalbeattie that made their intentions clear when a 30 yard shot almost caught out Lewis Sanderson in the Ashfield goal however the Keeper did well to get a touch to push the ball past the outside of the post. The game, like the game on Saturday, started off at a great pace and already the Ashfield front three of McCartney, Cummings and Starrs were showing tremendous pace. Adam Cummings got away from his marker 22 yards out after 5 minutes however was crudely brought down with the subsequent free-kick well defended. Aiden McAuley and Mason Durham were dominating the midfield early on and a lovely run from Mitchell Starrs on the right wing saw the ball played out to an onrushing McAuley who drilled the ball into the net with the aid of a deflection to put the `field ahead on 7 minutes. Ashfield 1 Dalbeattie Star 0. The South of Scotland Team responded quickly but found Adam Watson and Daniel Armstrong on the left hand side of the defence in a mean mood and chances were at a premium for the visitors. On the 15 minute mark it was Mitchell Starrs again that caused the visitors a problem and a lovely mazy run saw him cut in from the bye line before the ball was played across goal for an onrushing Adam Cummings who lashed the ball into the net to put the `field further ahead. Ashfield 2 Dalbeattie Star 0. A lovely goal in what had been a promising start for the home side and they continued to maintain the tempo throughout the remainder of the half. Dalbeattie foraged forward at every opportunity also and could have pulled a goal back five minutes from half time when a brilliant free-kick delivery to the far post saw the Star Centre forward bullet his header over the bar, As it was the `field went in 2-0 at the interval with the prospect of a few changes in the 2nd half to give everyone a `run out`.

The second half continued in the same vein despite a number of changes early on to the line up with Sean Allan, Manus Connor and Connor Hughes replacing the front three, A couple of close offside decisions went against the `field as they tried to increase their lead. Manus Connor had moved into a midfield role as the shape changed slightly and it didn`t take too long for Manus to affect proceedings. The young Ex-Clydebank player picked the ball up in midfield on 68 minutes before threading an inch perfect pass to Sean Allan who raced in on goal before guiding the ball under the advancing keeper to put Ashfield further ahead. Ashfield 3 Dalbeattie Star 0. A lovely move and goal from Ashfield. The game began to slow down a bit after this with the introduction of further substitutions from both sides and it was the visitors that managed to reduce the deficit after being awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box on 72 minutes. Up stepped Cameron Shaw showing a great technique as the ball dipped under the bar leaving Sanderson with no chance. Ashfield 3 Dalbeattie Star 1. The `field upped the pace again and should have gone further ahead with 10 minutes to go as it looked like Sean Allan had evaded the offside trap again before driving the ball into the net however Referee Campbell deemed he had timed his run a little too early and the goal was `chalked off`. The game finished as both teams tried to increase their goal tally and this had been a great workout for both teams and an enjoyable view for the healthy crowd inside the Complex.
The `field head down to England on Saturday to play Alnwick Town FC before further games next week away to Saltcoats Victoria and Drumchapel United finish their build up to their League Campaign.

Man of the Match:- An excellent performance from Ashfield where everyone played their part in the victory. Aiden McAuley set the tone with his workrate early on scoring the opener also. Special mention to the whole back four of Watson, Woods, Armstrong and Stewart with the front three also looking good.

Match No 3:- Alnwick Town 5 Ashfield 1 , Pre-Season Friendly - Saturday 11th July 2026 - Kick-Off 2pm. St James Park, Alnwick, Northumberland.
A great start to the Match saw the game swing from end to end with the hosts scoring first. Unfortunately the first half was halted due to a serious injury to Ashfield`s Central Defender Jay Woods who was in serious distress & was immediately taken to hospital. Ashfield equalised before half time through Jordan Brown but the `field also suffered another injury to winger Mitchell Starrs who later received 6 stitches in a facial wound.

The home side stepped up a gear in the 2nd half playing some excellent football and also capitalising on some defensive mistakes from the visitors to win comfortably in the end. A good workout again against impressive hosts and we wish them all the best in the Northern League Division 2 this Season.

Match No 4:- Saltcoats Victoria 2 Ashfield 3 - Pre-Season Friendly - Tuesday 14th July 2026 - Campbell Park, Saltcoats, Ayrshire KA21 5JQ
A lovely summers evening on the North Ayrshire Coast greeted both sets of players and supporters in this Pre-Season Friendly. The `field were `nursing` a few wounds from their trip down South on Saturday however it was great to see Jay Woods make the game on crutches after being released from Hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery,
Onto the game itself, Peter Hill and Andy Gardner made a number of changes bringing in new Signing Ex-Rangers Academy Player Ben Jenkins and he settled into a Midfield berth alongside Mason Durham and Aiden McAuley. The transformation in Campbell Park from our last visit away back in December 2018 was amazing and the ground was looking splendid. Referee Haswell got proceedings underway and after an initial period of `sparring` it was the `field that began to exert some pressure with a couple of shots from outside the box. Ashfield were utilising the flanks well and Adam Cummings almost broke clear of the last man on a couple of occasions before the `field eventually took the lead after 17 minutes from the penalty spot after Ben Jenkins had been brought down. Mason Durham finished with aplomb to put the visitors ahead. Saltcoats Vics 0 Ashfield 1. You are never more vulnerable than when you have scored almost applied to Ashfield as the home side almost equalised with their first main foray into the Ashfield box when a turn and shot hit the base of Lewis Sanderson`s right hand post. A couple of dangerous corner ensued after & the `field knew they had to be careful. On the 26th Minute however Jordan Brown picked up the ball in Midfield before driving into the box & despatching a right foot shot into the corner of the net to put the `field 2-0 ahead. A wonderful effort from Jordan ! Saltcoats Vics 0 Ashfield 2. The `field remained on the front foot however with 3 minutes until half time, a rash tackle from RJ Black gave the Referee no hesitation in pointing to the spot with McCullough placing the penalty out with Sanderson`s reach to reduce the deficit. Saltcoats Vics 1 Ashfield 2. As it was there was no further scoring with the Crowd looking forward to the 2nd period.

The crowd were just settling into their vantage points for the second half viewing when, with the assistance of the wind, the impressive Saltcoats Captain Jamie Stirling strode into the Ashfield half before unleashing a 40 yard shot which sailed past the Substitute Ashfield Keeper Malley and into the top corner of the net to level the score. Saltcoats Vics 2 Ashfield 2. After dominating most of the first half the `field knew it was `game on` as they foraged forward at early opportunity. A great shot by Substitute Cian Kinney missed the upright by a fraction. The introduction of Mitchell Starrs added further pace and trickery to the Ashfield attack as they lay siege on the Vics back four and on the hour mark a lovely move down the left hand side saw the ball played across the edge of the box by Ben Jenkins where Starrs got to the ball first time hitting the back of the net in seconds to restore Ashfield`s lead. A terrific goal from Mitchell ! Saltcoats Vics 2 Ashfield 3. The `field upped the tempo for the next period however while there was only a goal in it the home side knew they had a chance. Both teams made a number of substitutes in true Pre-Season fashion and the game ebbed and flowed. The `field were awarded a 2nd penalty as the clock ticked towards the 90th Minute. Leo McCartney stepped up this time however it was the Vics Keeper who produced a brilliant save before the ball was cleared to safety. Referee Haswell brought proceedings to a close shortly after and this had been a great workout for both teams ahead of their Season openers on the 25th July against Kilsyth Athletic and Glenvale respectively.

Man of the Match:- Some good performances in the Black and White Hoops with special mention to Matthew Gray, Jordan Brown, Ben Jenkins and Mason Durham however Ross Mullen put in a solid performance at Right Back and later in Midfield and wins this week`s MOM.

Match No 5:- Kilsyth Athletic 1 Ashfield 2 , Saturday 25th July 2026 - KO 2pm - West of Scotland League Division 2 - Kilsyth Sportsfield, Garrell Road, Kilsyth G65 9JX
It was great to get back to competitive Football following recent Friendly games and both teams produced an opening day cracker at the Kilsyth Sportsground. The games last Season between the Teams had produced 10 goals so it came as no surprise that a goal was scored in the opening minutes. A through ball following a misunderstanding in the home defence saw Mason Durham take advantage as he drove the ball beyond Aaron Burns in the Kilsyth goal to put the `field ahead. Kilsyth Ath 0 Ashfield 1. It was a great start for the `field with the crowd still coming through the turnstiles. The `new look` Ashfield Team looked to build on the early lead as the home side struggled to get in to the Match and a couple of corners for the visitors failed to bring any joy. Ashfield were utilising the flanks well with Mitchell Starrs causing problems with his pace and trickery and within the first 20 minutes Kiernan and Cairns for Kilsyth had found themselves in the Referee`s book. As the game settled down the home side began to get their game `in check` and were looking very dangerous down the left hand side in particular with Robbie Morton putting in some dangerous cross balls. The `field were struggling to make the ball `stick` up front and the latter half of the first period belonged to the home side. Again a couple of low crosses into the box from Morton caused difficulties inside the Ashfield box and the home side eventually got their reward on 26 minutes following a corner on the right. The ball was whipped into the 6 yard box with the ball only partially cleared and Crawford was first to react to the loose ball as he hammered a shot into the roof of the net to the delight of the home support. Kilsyth Ath 1 Ashfield 1. It was `game on` now however the pressure remained on the `field with again another lovely move a few minutes later which saw Norton crack a shot off the crossbar before being scrambled to safety. This was a let off for the `field however the visitors almost went in ahead at the interval following a late corner. Again the delivery into the 6 yard box was only partially cleared to the edge of the box and it was Ross Mullen who`s net-bound effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Burns. As it was Referee Taylor brought first half proceedings to a halt and the crowd knew that there would be more twists and turns before the points were awarded.

The 2nd half started in similar fashion with the home side edging possession and again causing problems down the left flank. The Ashfield Management Team made no more than 4 changes in a short period of time restructuring the lay out and all of a sudden the `field negated the danger on the left hand side but more more significantly became a real threat with the pace of Leo McCartney through the middle and Greg Chalmers passing in Midfield allowing Mason Durham to forage forward more too with Manus Connor operating as support for McCartney. As the half wore on Ashfield began to make some chances, firstly a lovely cross ball from Manus Connor found an onrushing Kyle Stewart and the smallest player on the Park bulleted a header which skimmed the outside of the post. It was Kyle Stewart who was next up again as after a period of pressure the ball broke to him 25 yards from goal. The Ashfield midfielder found time to compose himself and drilled an unstoppable shot which missed the junction of the bar and post by an inch. The visiting supporters were buoyed by the increase in chances and the `field`s chances were increased further when Kiernan for Kilsyth received a 2nd yellow card for a late challenge on Kyle Stewart. The `field thought they had gone ahead with 8 minutes to go as Jordan Brown broke clear down the right hand side before delivering a terrific ball across the box where Leo McCartney got on the end of it only to see Aaron Burns in the Kilsyth Goal pull off a magnificent save as he pushed the ball around the post. As the Match went into the final minute it all became a bit frantic with the `field shooting from all angles and the home side defending manfully however on 90 minutes a lovely `dink` over the Kilsyth defence by Greg Chalmers found Leo McCartney and the Ashfield Striker drove the ball past Burns to spark wild celebrations amongst the visiting players, fans and Management. Kilsyth Ath 1 Ashfield 2. It was a great reward for the last period of play from the `field and the game was brought to a close shortly after. It was hard on the Kilsyth team who had put so much into the game however the `field`s fitness in which they have worked extremely hard on during the close season paid dividends as they finished the game strongly to register their first win of the Season.
There is no midweek game for Ashfield with the `field welcoming Port Glasgow to Stepford next Saturday (1/8/2026). Kilsyth on the other hand head to Parklea Stadium this midweek to play Port Glasgow before welcoming Knightswood next Saturday.

Man of the Match:- A great victory and performance from the `field yesterday with some players still `finding their feet` however there was no `hiding place` for any players as the game was played at a tremendous pace. Special mentions to Mason Durham, Leo McCartney, Kyle Stewart and Adam Watson however RJ Black`s performance belied his young age to produce a Man of the Match performance playing in a different position in the 2nd half. His distribution and tackling were `spot on`.

Match No 6:- Ashfield 0 Port Glasgow 3 - West of Scotland League Division 2 - Saturday 1st August 2026 - 2pm KO - Stepford Park, 1514 Edinburgh Road, Glasgow G33 4EG
Ashfield welcomed ` the Undertakers` to the `field`s temporary home at Stepford for the first game between the Teams in 5 years. The `Port` last visited Ashfield in 2021 at Saracen Park when a Ryan McManus inspired Ashfield put on a tremendous show winning 6-1. The `Port` however have been one of the form teams of the West of Scotland Leagues for a number of years now and have been particularly strong at home. As it was the game brought in a healthy attendance with the strange Summer Weather continuing as both sets of supporters were treated to sunshine and a deluge of showers.
Both teams had overcame a talented Kilsyth Athletic Team in the last seven days and today`s game set off at a great gusto with neither team giving an `inch`. The ball was like a `hot potato` for the first 20 minutes as defences were certainly on top and chances were at a premium and it took 25 minutes for the first major chance of the game when a lovely sweeping cross from an overlapping Port fullback evaded Lewis Sanderson in the Ashfield goal only to see an advancing Port forward head the ball wide. Next up and the Port almost scored when a `wicked` cross from the left hand side saw a glancing header hit the base of the post before being cleared to safety. Ashfield began to create major problems in the the 2nd part of the half with Leo McCartney foraging forward down the right flank and delivering some tremendous crosses into the box which caused a lot of problems to the Port defence. The game was fiercely competitive however the Referee was keen to assert his authority with many of the tackles producing a Card and the `field began to build up a number and it was from this area that the game changed as it entered the 44th minute when a late challenge by Adam Watson produced a 2nd yellow Card and an early bath for the Ashfield left back. A shame as this was to effectively change the game and course of events as the supporters discussed this issue at half time.
HT:- ASHFIELD 0 PORT GLASGOW 0
Ashfield changed the team slightly and unfortunately Leo McCartney was the sacrifice for being reduced to 10 men with Ross Mullen coming into Right Back and Kyle Stewart moving over to Left Back. The visitors made their intentions early on as they foraged forward utilising the flanks well and Lewis Sanderson was tested with a shot at his near post pushing the ball around for a corner. The `field had been warned at HT to keep things tight for the opening spell however a lovely delivered ball to the far post found an advancing Ronnie Wilson who guided the ball into the net to the roar of the travelling support. A real blow for Ashfield. Ashfield 0 Port Glasgow 1. Ashfield brought on fresh players after this with Greg Chalmers and Ben Jenkins coming on to bolster the midfield. The visitors had the strong wind behind them in the second period and were working it well and despite Ashfield pushing forward at every opportunity the ball was not sticking and the `Port` were beginning to build up a head of steam and on 66 minutes they went further ahead. A lovely ball over the defence on the left hand side saw the Port winger gather the ball before evading a tackle and drilling the ball low and hard across the 6 yard box where an onrushing Aidan Duffy stroked the ball home to put the Renfrewshire men 2-0 ahead. Ashfield 0 Port Glasgow 2 . The game remained competitive for the remaining and the home side deserve credit for trying to push forward at every opportunity. To `rub salt in the wound` a tackle from RJ Black on the edge of the box had Referee Hayworth pointing to the spot as the Match went into injury time. Shaun Rodgers stepped up and finished with aplomb to complete the scoring for the day. Ashfield 0 Port Glasgow 3. The `Port` are a very good side and would expect them to be near the top end of the table come May next year. As for the `field, the sending off changed everything as they more than held their own during the first half and they must `dust themselves down` for three games the week after next - Knightswood (a), Ardeer Thistle (h) and Yoker Athletic (a).

Man of the Match:- A difficult decision as everyone put in a tough shift against a very good Port Glasgow side. Special mentions to Lewis Sanderson in goal and RJ Black and Matty Gray at the back however it was a shame that Leo McCartney`s game had to be cut short due to the sending off as he was sacrificed for a change in formation. All in all Kyle Stewart kept to his game for the full 90 minutes and wins this week`s accolade.

Match No 7:- Knightswood FC 2 Ashfield 2 , Saturday 8th August 2026 - KO 2pm - West of Scotland League Division 2, Kirkintilloch Sports Complex, 72 Donaldson Street, Kirkintilloch G66 1XS
This was the first Meeting between the Teams in Senior Football although there is a terrific history between the Clubs spanning back almost 50 years with many Knightswood players coming to Ashfield & ending up Club Legends over the years. A warm welcome was had from the Home Committee and it was good to see a healthy Crowd at the Match.
Onto the game itself, the home side had made an excellent start to the Season scoring 14 goals & only conceding 1 and were quite rightly up there as one of the favourites for the League. Ashfield were looking to `bounce back` from last week after a good opening day win to the Season. Peter Hill & Andy Gardner had to `shuffle` the pack slightly due to injuries, unavailability and suspensions but the 11 on the Park were extremely strong as the game started off at a great tempo officiated by Lauchlan Dougall. It was the visitors that started the first couple of minutes on the `front foot` as young Leo McCartney showed some speed down the flanks however the first foray up the field for Knightswood in the 3rd minute saw the ball played to the left hand side of the box for an onrushing Alex Fairlie who just got ahead of Mattie Gray & was brought down on the edge of the box. The subsequent free kick was whipped in, crashing off the underside of the bar before a `stramash` in the Ashfield 6 yard area saw Sanderson pull off a couple of stops before Donaldson poked the ball home to the delight of the home support. Knightswood 1 Ashfield 0. Not the start the visitors wanted as the confidence grew in the home side and Ashfield had to withstand some further pressure however the Ashfield defence stood firm ably marshalled by Matthew Gray and Greg Chalmers. On Loan left back Aiden O`Neil from Johnstone Burgh was showing up well as the `field calmed things down and got their passing game going and started to play some lovely Football. A chance on 20 minutes saw Leo McCartney weave past a couple of defenders on the right hand side however his shot sailed narrowly over. There wasn`t an `inch` given by either side and the tackling and pace was fierce at times and on 39 minutes the game boiled over on the near touchline with Nicol raising his hands leaving the Referee no option but to send him for an early bath. The `field saw their opportunity now however the home side were extremely dangerous when coming forward and as the half was brought to a close the crowd knew they were in for an intriguing 2nd half.

There were no changes to the visiting line up however Knightswood made one taking off the Goal-scorer Donaldson. The game again was played at a healthy pace and defences were on top in the early stages. The strong wind was blowing across the park but if any benefit it was now to Ashfield. Some lovely movement down the right by McCartney again caused alarm in the home defence and that was followed up by Mitchell Starrs who almost played in Mason Durham but the final pass was slightly behind him. A couple of shots from the home side went close and were also gathered well by Lewis Sanderson who was handling the ball well. Ashfield began to get up a `head of steam` with circa 22 minutes to go and chances began to fall their way. Manus Connor bolstered the Ashfield front line replacing Le McCartney who had put in an excellent shift. With 20 minutes to go, a lovely ball was played into the box which saw Mason turn well before firing narrowly over. Knightswood substitute Tambwe `stung the hands` of Sanderson with a fierce shot before Jordan Brown should have equalised for Ashfield following a lovely move however the normally composed Midfielder blasted over from 10 yards. It was all Ashfield at this stage and the 10 men of Knightswood were holding on ably marshalled by Ex-Ashfield player Harry Grainger. Next up a mix up at the back by Keeper Omar Joof saw Mason Durham dispossess him and from 22 yards out curled the ball goal-wards only to see the ball come off the post and cleared to safety. The home side responded themselves and a shot from just inside the box cannoned off Lewis Sanderson`s outside post. Mason Durham was now in the `thick of it` and a lovely cross from the right saw Mason outjump the home keeper only to see the ball cleared off the line however on 83 minutes Ashfield finally equalised. A lovely through ball from Greg Chalmers saw Aiden McAuley break clear from Midfield and as the Keeper advanced he drove the ball past him & into the net to the delight of the travelling support. Knightswood 1 Ashfield 1. A couple more changes to the line-ups saw the game head towards the 90 minutes and officially with 5 minutes left on the clock a fierce drive from the edge of the box by Simeon deceived Sanderson with the pace and the ball hit the net at speed to give Knightswood the lead. Knightswood 2 Ashfield 1. A major blow for Ashfield having put so much into the game however they kept on pressing and testing the resilience of the Knightswood defence. As the game entered it`s 3rd minute of added time the ball was played into the box with the ball `bobbing` about. The visitors had a shout for handball waved aside by the Referee however the ball immediately broke out to Jordan McMahon on the edge of the box and his left foot half volley hit the back of the net in seconds to spark off wild celebrations in the home dug out and amongst the traveling support. A fantastic finish from Jordan. Knightswood 2 Ashfield 2. The Referee had barely time to centre the ball before the final whistle blew to end a tremendous Match with both teams giving their all.

Match No 9:- Yoker Athletic 1 Ashfield 2 , West of Scotland League Division 2 - Saturday 15th August 2026 - Holm Park, Dock Street, Clydebank G811LX
Holm Park had undergone some tremendous reconstruction since Ashfield`s last visit here in 2023 and the ground was looking splendid ahead of this eagerly anticipated League Match., Both teams have made a good start to the Season & infact the home side remained undefeated going into the game following their 4-3 victory at Dalry in midweek. The `field made 2 changes from the abandoned Ardeer Thistle Match with Darren Malloy coming in for the unfortunate Lewis Sanderson & also had Manus Connor given a starting berth replacing Aiden McAuley who was unavailable. Referee Ross Clark got proceedings underway as the crowd were still coming through the turnstiles ad virtually from Kick-Off the home side made their intentions known as they poured forward in search of an early goal. Ex-Ashfield Man Ross McDonald was `pulling the strings` in Midfield bringing in both wingers and the first real chance came on the 8th minute when a whipped in ball from the left side found Brown finding room at the edge of the 6 yard box despatching a net bound effort in which was brilliantly saved by Malloy. The Ashfield Keeper was called into action shortly after when a ball was played from the right this time finding the head of Carballo and his downward header was blocked on the line by Malloy.
The `field were struggling to get out their half at this stage and the home side were keen to make the breakthrough. Tackling was fierce with no inch given as the home side foraged forward. Yoker did get an almighty fright when the `field showed great pace with their first proper move after 20 minutes utilising the speed of McCartney with the `field winger breaking through only to be thwarted by a great save from Lee Kilbride in the `whey ho` Goal. From the resultant corner by Manus Connor, the Ashfield midfielder curled in a ball to the far post only to see it crack off the post and was cleared to safety, however for the remainder of the half it was the home side that applied the pressure with the Ashfield rear-guard holding firm before Referee Clark brought proceedings to a halt.

As the planes roared above on their way to Glasgow Airport neither team made any initial substitutions at this stage but it would not be long before things changed, The home side left off where they had finished in the first half forcing a number of early corners which on the whole were well defended. Chalmers and Matthew Gray were defending extremely well backed up by Malloy however none of them could do anything about a ball which was picked up some 22 yards from goal by Carballo. The Yoker Striker gathered and drove the ball at pace with Malloy pulling of a tremendous one handed save pushing the ball onto the junction of the bar and the post before the rebound fell to an onrushing Angus Brown who lashed the ball into the roof of the net on 53 minutes. Yoker Athletic 1 Ashfield 0. The phrase `it had been coming` was pretty apt here however the game changed after this. The `field brought on a couple of substitutes during the next period with Michael Foley making his debut on the right hand side and RJ Black came into the back four allowing Greg Chalmers to move into Midfield with Manus Connor moving up top and Mason Durham dropping back slightly to bolster the Midfield and following these moves `bedding in` the `field started to have the bulk of the possession however wary of the threat that the home side could pose. Jordan Brown began to see more of the ball now also as the `field began to look a threat. A couple of runs from Foley were defended well however with 15 minutes left the Ashfield winger managed to forge into the box before being upended and Referee Clark had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. At first look the award seemed a trifle soft however the Yoker defender did not make contact with the ball. Up stepped the Ashfield Captain Mason Durham who sent the Keeper the wrong way to level the scores. Yoker Athletic 1 Ashfield 1. It was `game on` now and both teams were giving their all. Sean Allan came on for Ashfield up front as the clock ticked down & Ashfield almost won it on 86 minutes when Jordan Brown gathered the ball 30 yards out taking a few paces forward before despatching a terrific right foot shot which was brilliantly palmed round the post by Kilbride. The game was `turned on it`s head` in the last minute when substitute Sean Allan picked up the ball 22 yards out before running at the Yoker defence evading a couple of tackles before making room for himself and driving the ball low and hard past the despairing arms of Kilbride and into the bottom corner of the net to spark wild celebrations amongst the Ashfield players, Management and Supporters. Yoker Athletic 1 Ashfield 2. The game wasn`t finished as Referee Clark played almost 5 minutes of added time which saw the home side force two corner Kicks with the Yoker Keeper joining the attack for these, as it was the Referee brought proceedings to a halt and the points headed Ashfield`s way.
It was an enthralling 90 minutes with the home side wondering how they let the game slip between their fingers however full credit to Ashfield for defending well and showing a great deal of resilience and skill where required in gaining the points.
A break for the `field next week which will give the players some `rest time` in what has been a `full on` start to the Season before heading to play Finnart on the 29th August 2026 - After that the Cup(s) take over for three weeks in September.

Man of the Match:- Another tough away game for the `field where the players really stuck at it and showed their resilience when things were perhaps not going their way. The team remained patient and struck late in the game as they have done a number of times this season. Special mentions to Matty Gray, Greig Chalmers and Mason Durham however Keeper Darren Malloy was outstanding today keeping the lively Yoker forwards at bay, especially in the first half.

Match No 10:- Finnart FC 3 Ashfield 2 , Saturday 29th August 2026 - 2pm KO - West of Scotland League Division 2. Greenfield Park, 415 Old Shettleston Road, Glasgow G32 7JN
This was the first meeting ever between the Teams and an enthralling 90 minutes were had with the game swinging from one end to another. The Match had been moved due to renovation work at Finnart`s home ground of Springburn Park to Greenfield Park , home of Glasgow United.
The sun made a welcome appearance as both teams graced the turf with the `field in their 3rd Kit of Yellow with Finnart in their traditional home strip of Blue & Black Stripes. Ashfield`s Management Team had to work hard to bring in a Keeper as Darren Malloy was unavailable & with Lewis Sanderson still in crutches a Loan deal was done with Petershill to bring in experienced Keeper Garry Black.
It was the home side that started the game on the `front foot` looking extremely lively with Centre Forward Joseph McKeown `catching the eye` with his weaving runs going forward. A couple of cross balls had to be defended well by Chalmers & Gray. Ashfield were struggling to get out their half in the opening 6 minutes however as it was Leo McCartney picked up the ball in the 7th minute before utilising his pace and driving at the home defence before being brought down with Referee Taylor immediately pointing to the spot. Up stepped Mason Durham who drilled in his 4th Goal of the Season to put the `field ahead. Finnart 0 Ashfield 1. All of a sudden the `field upped the pace and a wonderful move involving Michael Foley and Jordan Brown saw Jordan`s header brilliantly saved by Walker in the Finnart goal. Another chance fell Ashfield`s way when a corner was won at the far side with Chalmers header narrowly missing the upright. On 25 minutes the home side won a free-kick 22 yards out, again the lively McKeown curled the ball over the wall only to see his net bound effort brilliantly tipped over by Black. With 7 minutes remaining of the half
Finnart won a corner at the east end of the ground which was whipped into the back post. The recent corner from the same area almost saw the home side equalise however this time the `field pulled a couple more players into the far post however the ball came off the unfortunate McCartney and ended up in the net t the delight of the home support. Finnart 1 Ashfield 1. The game ebbed and flowed right up to the half time whistle and the expectant crowd knew it was going to be an interesting 2nd half.

As Euan Taylor got proceedings underway it was Ashfield`s turn to start the quickest and Leo McCartney was utilising his pace well. A Jordan Brown effort went wide before the `field got their `noses in front` again which was following a corner with the ball initially being played out before a lovely cross found an onrushing Matty Gray and the Ex-Forth Player got ahead of the advancing keeper to volley the ball into the net to the delight of the visiting support. A well taken Goal indeed ! Finnart 1 Ashfield 2. Both teams made a number of substitutions in the warm conditions as the game opened up and started flowing from end to end. Ashfield had the bulk of the pressure however all of this changed on 64 minutes when a floated ball over the Ashfield back four saw Ross McBride evade the offside trap and as Garry Black advanced the Finnart Winger lashed the ball past him and into the net to level the proceedings. Finnart 2 Ashfield 2. Ashfield brought on Sean Allan and within a couple of minutes the Ashfield attacker played a wonderful ball to an onrushing Mitchell Starrs at the far post however the Ashfield winger`s effort went over the bar to the anguish of the visiting support. A real chance for the `field. Ashfield won a number of corners which caused danger however the game was being stretched and the `field struggled to gain control as the home side looked dangerous on the break and with only 6 minutes left on the clock a similar long ball caught out the `field defence again and the same player broke clear this time electing to go around the Ashfield Keeper before being brought down with the Referee having no hesitation in pointing to the spot. The Finnart Captain McAdam stepped up and finished with aplomb despite the valiant effort of Garry Black & it was home side that went ahead for the first time in the Match. Finnart 3 Ashfield 2. The last 7/8 minutes played saw the `field encamped in the Finnart half but could not make the breakthrough despite a Mason Durham downward header which was tipped onto the crossbar by Walker. As it was it was Finnart who went on to take the points which moves them up to 4th in the Table.
A sore one for Ashfield who will be extremely disappointed at not taking something from the game however it was a game that they never had in their control and the last quarter of the match was far too open.
It`s a break now from the League as Ashfield head down to the South of Scotland next Saturday (5/9/26) to take on Mid-Annandale in Lockerbie in the South Challenge Cup before heading up to Ardeer the following week.

Man of the Match:- Some really good performances from the `field yesterday and many unlucky to be on the losing side. Special mentions to the wingers yesterday with also Matty Gray getting his first Goal for the Club and Mason Durham continuing his Goal scoring exploits however Greg Chalmers at the back for Ashfield was terrific, starting many moves and showing his full range of passing.

Match No 11:- Mid-Annandale 1 Ashfield 5 , Saturday 5th September 2026 - 2pm KO - South Challenge Cup 2nd Round. New King Edward Park, 1 Matthew`s Loaning, Lockerbie DG11 2NB
Ashfield made the journey down the M74 to the lovely town of Lockerbie to play Mid-Annandale which was the first ever Meeting between the Teams. The neat surroundings of New King Edward Park housed a main stand and terracing down one side of the Park and the 60+ Crowd welcomed the Teams onto the Park. The `Mids` were playing in their traditional Yellow and Black Strips whereas Ashfield were in their away strip of all Red with Black trim. Referee Michael Williamson got the game underway and both teams started brightly with the `field making a couple of changes from last week with RJ Black and Ben Jenkins starting and both players were involved early on. The `field were utilising the pace of Starrs and McCartney up front however after only 7 minutes on the clock the home side won a corner which was cleared and played back in. The `Mids` Centre Half Benji Wagner with his back to goal swivelled and hooked the ball into the top corner of the net to the delight of the home support. Mid-Annandale 1 Ashfield 0. What a start for the home side and this goal gave Ashfield a jolt however it did not detract them from getting the ball down and playing Football and as the game wore on the `field began to take control against the hard working South of Scotland Team. A few near chances were had as the Ashfield front three caused the home defence a lot of problems. Ben Jenkins was linking up well with the wingers and on 17 minutes the `field got level. The ball was picked up by Leo McCartney and as he dribbled past one defender before being upended inside the box with the Referee having no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Up stepped Captain Mason Durham who sent the Keeper the wrong way for his 5th Goal of the Season. Mid-Annandale 1 Ashfield 1. The `field almost went ahead a few minutes later when a sweeping move down the right saw the inside ball flicked on by Jenkins to an onrushing Mitchell Starrs who drove the ball goal-wards only to see Ciaran Boyes in the `Mids` goal brilliantly claw the ball away from a certain goal. The `field then went onto have a further few chances, firstly RJ Black bulleted a header over from 6 yards following a well delivered corner before another corner caused alarm with a resultant shot hitting the post. The `field eventually made their pressure play as a lovely sweeping from the right found an onrushing Mitchell Starrs, this time the Ashfield winger made no mistake drilling the ball home to put the `field ahead on 30 minutes. Mid-Annandale 1 Ashfield 2. The home side foraged forward at every opportunity to try and draw level however it was Ashfield that managed to break play down and hit strongly on the break. With 5 minutes of the half remaining Ashfield won a free kick 22 yards out. Ben Jenkins who was having a terrific Match curled the ball around the wall only to see the ball hit the base of the post before being scrambled clear. Just as everyone started thinking about their half time Cup of Tea, a lapse in concentration by the home defence saw Starrs again nip in ahead of the Keeper and head over Boyes and into the net to put the `field further ahead. Mid-Annandale 1 Ashfield 3. It was no more than Ashfield deserved after playing some great attacking Football throughout the half.

Both teams made some changes to their personnel as the game got underway in blustery conditions. Again the pattern continued with Ashfield on the front foot but the home side were well organised and initially chances were at a premium however as the half wore on the `Mids` Keeper Ciaran Boyes was called into action saving well from Starrs and then Michael Foley who had come on at half time. Foley was involved a fair bit and was unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet. Another couple of chances fell with the home side defending well with Mason Durham unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet again blasting a net bound effort which was tipped over by Boyes. As the half went into the final stages the home side tried to force the play and won a free-kick with 10 minutes to go however the award failed to trouble Black in the Ashfield Goal. With a few minutes to go Ashfield got their reward for their continued pressure when a lovely cut back from Durham found Jordan Brown on the edge of the box and his fierce shot beat Boyes on it`s way to the corner of the net to increase the Glasgow side`s Lead. Mid-Annandale 1 Ashfield 4. A few minutes later and the `field increased their tally after some neat interchange on the edge of the box saw Mason Durham gather the ball before despatching a low and hard shot past the despairing arms of Boyes to complete the scoring. Mid Annandale 1 Ashfield 5. This was Mason`s 6th Goal of the Season & was unfortunate not to have more after scoring 2 in the abandoned Match against Ardeer Thistle earlier in the Season. As Referee brought proceedings to a close the visitors can be happy with their display and augurs well for the Season ahead with many attacking options available to Peter Hill and his Management Team.

Ashfield continued on their travels this week to Stevenston in Ayrshire after a long trek to Lockerbie in the Cup last week. The way the fixtures have worked out has resulted in Ashfield`s fifth game in a row away from home and with the Cup draws over the next few weeks Ashfield will go on a period whereby there will be no home games for circa 9 games with Matches at Aberdeen East End, Girvan, St Cadocs and Lochee United all coming up. This week we were on familiar territory at the Ardeer Stadium however it felt strange that Sean Kenney was not in the away Dug-Out. The large and vociferous crowd saw both teams grace the turf in their traditional strips and it was the `field that started on the front foot with two great chances in the opening 3 minutes. Mason Durham was unlucky with a snap shot inside the box which Bysouth in goal diverted round the post with his legs. The resultant corner saw the ball break out to Greg Chalmers however his shot went narrowly over. From the restart Thistle won a free-kick on the right hand side on 5 minutes which was whipped into the box and it was Calum Wardrope for Ardeer who rose highest to bullet a header into the roof of the net to the roar of the home support. Ardeer Thistle 1 Ashfield 0. This goal sparked Ashfield into action however there was some heavy tackling which Referee McDonald just managed to keep a lid on with a number of players being booked throughout the half. The home support were extremely vocal which spurred on the home side and the `field were struggling to build up any level of pressure on the Ardeer goal. A couple of half chances came Ashfield`s way without failing to trouble the Ardeer Keeper and the `field suffered a further blow on 39 minutes when a mazy run down the left by Mark Steele saw him cut in before drilling a shot which caught out Woods at his near post to put the home side further ahead,. Ardeer Thistle 2 Ashfield 0. A real blow for Ashfield as they set about pulling one back before half time. As it was the Referee brought proceedings to a halt in a bad tempered first half and the `field would have to overcome a determined Ardeer side backed by a very vocal crowd in the 2nd half to take something from the Match.

The `field made one change for the second half bringing on Trialist Oliver Doolin for Aiden McAuley and changed the formation at the back to a three in a more attacking formation and within 5 minutes of the half restarting the `field had pulled a goal back. Ashfield put the home defence under pressure from the wings with the ball played into the middle causing a bit of a `stramash` with the ball breaking to Mason Durham who lashed in his 7th Goal of the Season and it was `game on`. Ardeer Thistle 2 Ashfield 1. The Glasgow side started to control play however the home side were extremely dangerous on the break and a break on the hour mark saw the ball played to the edge of Ashfield`s box however the Ardeer forward could not keep his shot down. Another move down the left saw the Ardeer No 8 drive the ball goal-wards striking the outside of Garry Woods post. The `field made another couple of changes as they started to build up the pressure on the home defence and as the game went into the last 10 minutes, a lovely move saw Mitchell Starrs break clear of his marker cutting the ball across the box where Mason Durham drilled the ball into the net however the Ashfield celebrations were short-lived as Referee McDonald `chalked` the goal off for Offside. Another nice piece of wing play on the right from Mitchell Starrs saw the ball played in again and after a couple of blocked shots the ball fell to substitute Rhys Martin and his shot crashed off the bar to the anguish of the travelling support. As the clock ticked towards full time a lovely ball was played through to Mitchell Starrs again by Mason Durham however Joshua Bysouth in the Ardeer was first to react as he seemed the gather the ball however let it slip with Starrs picking up the loose ball and playing in Mason Durham who guided the ball into the path of Manus Connor who drilled the ball home to spark scenes of wild celebrations in the away dug out. Ardeer Thistle 2 Ashfield 2. A cool finish from Manus and a well deserved equaliser. On a disappointing note the Ardeer Captain took it upon himself to strike Mason Durham in the aftermath of the goal and was rightly shown a Red Card. The game had barely time for the ball to be centred before the Referee brought proceedings to a close and a share of the spoils.
A tough Match at a very difficult and intimidating venue however Peter Hill & Andy Gardner can be proud of their young Ashfield Team for keeping their heads and never giving up which has been symptomatic of many of their away performances this Season. Many teams will certainly struggle at this venue but the `field will `dust themselves` down now and prepare this week for a trip to Aberdeen in the Scottish Communities Cup (Scottish Junior Cup).

Man of the Match:- It was a challenging afternoon against a tough Team and venue however after a slightly disappointing 1st half, the `field stepped up a gear and produced an excellent 2nd half performance. Aiden O`Neill was again, as he has been since joining from Johnstone Burgh, terrific and was constantly whipping the balls into dangerous areas in the box. Mason Durham produced a Captain`s performance & was a constant threat to the Ardeer defence culminating in the 1st goal and Aiden & Mason share this week`s accolade.
