Ashfield Academy Match Reports

Sunday  20th January 2019:-

Many thanks to David Currie, Ashfield Academy Coach for the undernoted:-

On Sunday our Ashfield 2006s travelled to play Shettleston in a league game, but this wasn't any normal game in that three of our younger age group(2007s) had been asked if they would like to come along and get some experience playing in their first 11 a side game. Boys chosen were Brandon Cullen , Caiden McMaster and Jason Miller. The game was very competitive and very evenly matched with Ashfield taking the initiative from the start. A few chances passed by for either team before Jason rounded the keeper but couldn't squeeze the ball in from a tight angle. Then it was Brandon's turn to beat his marker and hit the base of the post. Then as everyone was thinking about half time , a ball played out of our defence caught Shettleston high up the park and Jason beat them for pace to hit a cracking shot from distance into the bottom corner. HT 1-0 Ashfield. Jason said after the game "It was a great experience and i can't wait to move up to 11's permanently. Loved the bigger pitch but loved scoring even more".

Second half started with Shettleston on the front foot and had us penned in and everyone sensed the goal was coming but from an unlikely source as it came from a back pass which took one awful bounce as our goal keeper went to kick it. 1-1

Alan and Gary made a few changes and we were back in the game. A great team goal which started from a throw in , involving 5 Ashfield players as Brandon found himself in space at edge of the box to finish really well under pressure. Brandon said after the game " I was pleased and excited to get the opportunity to play with the older team and was delighted to be able to score, also enjoyed working together in a new team".

Shettleston were not finished and with around 5 mins to go they won an aerial battle before their forward was through at an angle. He kept his cool as our goal keeper came out to narrow the angle and he found a midfielder darting into the box for a well worked tap in.

Final score 2-2

Caiden said after the game "I enjoyed playing 11 a side and i am looking forward to more games as the experience will do us good".

Alan Warren said "all the boys were fantastic and he is looking forward to given even more 07 boys a chance to play 11 a side games in the coming weeks".

ASHFIELD 05s v OLM

Match report

Our 05 boys dominated from the first whistle and had several chances to open the scoring but were denied by some good saves from OLM keeper ,until the 20min when a quick thinking corner from Declan Docherty and a quick 1-2 with Lewis McCann and Declan's cross come shot found it's way into the net to make it 1-0. The pressure on OLM was constant and resulted in a 1 on 1 for josh to round the keeper and pass it in to the net 2-0. Straight from kick off our boys won the ball and quick thinking from calan played in josh and his 25yrd strike hit the bar and rebounded out of play. Just before halftime and a long ball was miss judged to allow OLM in to score  HT Ashfield 2 - 1 OLM

Second half we started strong again but just couldn't put the ball in the net ,aidan put straight through and puts it just wide. Then junior put through and gets tackled fairly and out for a corner. Once again our pressure nearly pays off from a corner and Rhys sees a 30yrd hit top corner underside of bar and bounce out. unlucky but powerful strike. In the dying minutes Junior straight through again gets taken out for a penalty. Josh takes and strikes well but the keeper makes a brilliant save and the referee blows the full time whistle. Ashfield 05s 2 - 1 OLM.

This result puts us up to fourth with 5 games in hand and we could be level on points if we win them.

Sunday 27th January 2019:-

Today I attended the Ashfield 06s play against Scotland in a league match @ Milton. The game was very tight first half with Scotland shading the chances created but most were from distance as defences were on top. Scotland hit the post twice early on, their number 16 on both occasions and believe me she looks a player! Wee Cody Gilchrist from our 07s took the step up this week along with Rennie Robertson and Aiden Scott and again all 3 can be proud of their contributions. Cody shot wide twice in the first half. 0-0 was the half time score. 1 change made at interval introducing Tom Odeyemi to combat their 16 in midfield and it worked a treat as Rennie was sent clear and as he took on the early shot which was saved but Tom followed up to tap home. The goal seemed to rattle Scotland and the second arrived quickly as a neat 1-2 had Rennie in on goal and this time his finish was right in the corner.  Time for a few subs and young Cole Mooney who had just came on slotted home his first Ashfield goal. A big mention must go to the 2 centre backs for Ashfield as I thought Leon Warren and Ayden Masterton were fantastic and kept Scotland's attack under control nearly all game. Five mins to go and Ashfield were awarded a penalty our first of the season and young Abel Okedion took it but it was saved by the Scotland keeper but Abel managed to squeeze home the rebound at second attempt. Last minute of the game and Scotland managed to ruin our clean sheet after a nice finish but it wasn't enough to ruin a fine performance BY all our boys!

Ashfield 06`s v Cambuslang FC – 10/02/2019

Ashfield 06s played Cambuslang fc this Sunday 10th February in Milton in a very nice but cold morning. Last time the teams played it was a cracker with Cambuslang scoring late on to win 6-5!

The match started at a whirlwind pace and Cambuslang created the first chance thankfully shot went just over the bar. Then with one diagonal pace the cambuslang striker out muscled our defender and lifted it over the on rushing keeper for a great finish. 1-0 cambuslang.

Ashfield hit back almost straight away as big Tom danced between two defenders showing great feet before finishing really well into the corner. 1-1.

Soon it was 2-1 Ashfield as Lachlan raced onto a through ball to stroke home.

Ashfield were taking control of the midfield and when Rennie found Brandon on the right he beat his defender raced in on goal only for the goalie to save his shot but Jason followed up for an easy tap in. 3-1 .

Rennie then intercepted a pass into midfield burst by a defender and made it 4-1 with a tidy finish.

Then the strangest goal followed as Ashfield delivered a corner by Abel and it looked like the defender on the near post got his feet tangled up in the net as the ball went straight past him an in from the corner. 5-1.

At this point Cambuslang looked like they needed half time to reorganize but with a few mins to go Brandon got in on the act as he made it 6-1.

Great first half by the boys.

HT 6-1 Ashfield

Second half started and Alan and Gary had made a few changes and Cambuslang looked like they had started again better , pressing all over the park but one great defence splitting pass and jason was clean through and as keeper came out he decided to round him and tap home for 7-1.

Cambuslang responded and it was a great finish across goal into the far corner from edge of the box. 7-2.

Young Connor was playing at right back but his powerful running got him in on the act as he over lapped Brandon in right midfield to meet a cross at the back post. 8-2.

Big Tom got his second with another neat finish after a great pass by kaylum . 9-2

Cambuslang at this point were wanting the final whistle but with over 15mins to go a corner by ayden Masterton and a near post run and flick by Rennie , made it 10-2.

A great goal by Cambuslang reduced the deficit to 10-3 and I must say they did score three good goals today but no sooner had they done so and jason was away again, the defender desperately trying to keep up with him and in doing so clipped Jason's heals , referee who had a good game constantly talking all boys through the game waved advantage as Jason tried to stay up which he did to keep the ball from crossing the bye line , looked up and squared it to Ayden Masterton who somehow had managed to support him from defence to score his first goal that his dad had witnessed in nearly five years of watch his son play. Special moment!! 11-3

Last but not least another good run by right back Connor got him his second of the game just in time as referee had seen enough.

FT Ashfield 12-3 cambuslang

A great team performance today and one all coaches , parents and boys can go home feeling really proud of their collective efforts.

Match report by Coach Conor McLean who took charge of his first game – Ashfield 08`s

Boys came out the trap fast and were pushing high up the pitch, controlling the game from the outset. The thistle red lads were patient and managed to catch our boys on the counter and went up and scored a well worked goal.

It was then Ashfield's turn as Logan’s strike was saved by the keeper who could only get it as far as Jacob who put us back on par. We fell away a bit from the game at this point and the boys were not tracking back as they should have... second half began and the boys came out and did what they were told at the break and that was to put pressure on the thistle players and force mistakes, it paid off as we were able to get up the pitch get a goal from josh who slotted it past the keeper. Aidan was then tested when a thistle player managed to win the ball from our defence and was 1 on 1 with our keeper who rises to the occasion and managed to stop thistle getting back into the game. The next goal came from a well timed tackle from Tidiane which was then played forward by kelvin only to be deflected back to him for a rocket of a half volley leaving the keeper no chance. Thistle played in another great ball which was comfortably dealt with by Aidan who was fast off his line to take the ball from the attacker. We then went 4-1 up after wee Caleb made one of his many darting runs in behind the defence and got his head up and played a quick 1-2 with Jacob and then finished it. Thistle has another chance to get a goal but were denied once AGAIN by our keeper Aidan who stayed big and knocked the ball out for a corner. From the corner thistle managed to get the ball out to a free man outside the box who side footbed the ball into the corner of the net.(4-2) a touch of brilliance from Caleb and Keelan working together to get themselves around the defence and lay the ball off nicely for Gary who made it 5. We then conceded a late goal due to a miscommunication in the defence.
